The Wayward Clan earned Dauntless' loyalty in the wilderness which exists between the Scarred Wasteland and the Tangled Wood. She and Erudite, refugees from Starfall Island, had collapsed at the border, too ill to even stand. Kedreeva, who had been winding playfully through the thick brambles meant to wall away the plagued dragons of the Wasteland, happened upon them and fetched Khelios to help.

After regaining consciousness, Dauntless explained that they had been exiled from the Island after an experiment Erudite had been performing went terribly wrong, injuring several dragons and killing two attendants. Technically only Erudite had been asked to leave, but Dauntless would not abandon him and so their exile became shared.

Dauntless recovered from the plague that had taken them with only minor scars where the worst of her boils had been; the mask she wears covers the worst. Erudite was not so lucky- his mind did not survive his illness the way his body did. Still, she loves him, and watches over him to ensure his safety. Her closest friends within the clan are Abnegation and Candor.
