The Protector

Two dragons. Fury rising between both of them. A fight was bound to start. The guardian, Noir, lunged at his foe, and just like that, wounds were just being multiplied. Blood splattered onto the grass. Noir stared at his opponent, who was now bleeding from the mouth and stomach. Noir himself was catching his own breath.
"Be prepared for this fight to end, once and for all." A final, sharp blow to the throat made the opponent fall as if they had turned into a ragdoll. Noir smiled. Victory. Alllll his. Noir never knew his parents. As far as he knew, they were dead. His biological parents, anyway. The earliest memory that Noir can remember is his adoptive mother, Lillie. The clan leader. She had found him alone that day, starving and half-dead. It was when his adoptive mother was just rising to power, when the clan was just rising to power. As time went on, Noir realized he wouldn’t be the last wayward hatchling that his mother adopted.
Lillie raised the hatchling to be a warrior. A ruthless, but respectable warrior. Noir’s mother didn’t only teach him how to fight, though. She taught him how to bargain, how to persuade. She taught him to be a leader. She taught him to be her heir. A dangerous, feared heir. A brutal soon-to-be leader. Noir’s brother, another Guardian named Seth who was Lillie's son, has a long-standing rivalry with him. Seth doesn’t want his brother to become the leader due to his bloodthirsty and violent tendencies. Noir often takes the bloody way out, making sure that those who attack or intrude upon the clan don’t return in his… Own way. The clan is a bit split over which should become the next leader. Seth or Noir? One is more powerful, though unforgiving and ruthless. The other is more just but doesn’t quite strengthen the clan as the other. Noir and Seth are constantly fighting even over the littlest things, their rivalry intensifying every moment the two continue to spit and hiss at each other. Noir doesn’t care what he has to do. As long as he lives, he will help and protect the clan. It isn’t only because of the fact that he is a Guardian. The fact that Noir feels like his life is indebted to his clan is because of the fact that they did indeed save his life. His adoptive mother taking him in that day saved him, preventing a slow or gory death. His loyalty to his clan is put above everything, even his love for battles. If Noir heard that his clan was under attack while he was in the middle of a fight in the coliseum, he’d willingly forfeit and hurry back to aid his clanmates. His mother loves him. Her heir, the one she took in and raised herself. She doesn’t feel the same of her biological children as she does Noir. Yet, she has to be realistic. Noir is a good leader, especially for a Plague clan. So is Seth, though. Eventually, before she passes down her title, she’ll have to pick one of them. That is, if one of them doesn’t kill the other before she can do so. Noir sometimes wonders if it’d be worth the banishment that would happen if he assassinated Seth. His hatred for his brother hasn’t seemed to have escalated to that point yet, though. |
