You can put a wild thing in silk and it’ll still stink of the woods;
you can put a traitor in velvet and it’ll still froth at the mouth.
oh but, dear, my skin is barbed wire and emeralds-- i lie in bed
with iron and steel, i know better than most how to wear my
own pain-- tell me, then, why is it so bad to admit your mistakes?
you can put a wreath on a dead horse and it’ll still wish on the stars.

It doesn’t matter their intentions. good, bad, malevolent, benevolent- no,
it doesn’t matter, because people can be presented with a dolled-up
monstrosity and still quake in their shoes because there’s no way to hide
the teeth. the eyes. god, her eyes, they’re as orange and bright as the sun.
oh these? cheap. i took them from my mother. she wasn’t using them.
you can give a beast of the earth fancy things and gems and crowns
but it won’t know how to use them. what would it even do, given such
power? it couldn’t help but oust itself.
the first lavish party, the first eloquent banquet-- it would gorge itself
and its slavering would alert all present. its greed, its dripping, bleeding
longing to fill the holes in its soul--

B I O G R A P H Y

Her blood red eyes tinted with a toxic green are well-known among the clan, a symbol of power and protection. They are the eyes of a leader, determination and confidence practically radiating from them. Maven is the leader of the clan, a true matriarch. Her reputation in the clan speaks of a pleasant and kind dragon, willing to help her clan members in whatever way necessary. Though she may seem sweet on the outside, she’s cold and twisted inside, but she wouldn’t dare show that side to her clan mates. In reality, Maven is cunning and ready to manipulate others to get her way. She’ll build bonds she deems beneficial, but when the profit leaves, so does she.
