Ophan is an idea, or a flight away from an idea. He has a faint memory of a young dragon on the edge of death who found an object like a pearlcatcher's pearl. It was not, but it became such when he touched it. The dragon had not been a pearlcatcher either, except definitionally, in that, he had by some means caught a pearl. It's all very muddled and confusing. It's not at all something he cares to reflect on much, and in his day to day, he doesn't really have to. He keeps busy. It's not too hard to keep busy as the King's nurse and personal assistant. The king is often hard to care for. He is complex and very sick, but his sickness is a secret. Ophan doesn't mind how much work it is. He likes to stay busy. As long as he keeps busy everything makes sense and feels orderly. He doesn't have to think about how he remembers a father that he didn't have. He doesn't have to think about the little things that don't seem to make sense. He knows that he is meant to care for the King, and that is what he will do. |

The last nurse had to leave. She was good at her job, but made a few bad mistakes. Ophan can make no such mistakes. He is loyal to the King and to the Clockmaker. It is odd because he has never met the Clockmaker, although he knows him, and knows he seems like an old friend. It doesn't make much sense, but he doesn't mind that. It doesn't worry him like some things do. Some dragons think he is a little strange, because of the eyes, but the dragons here are used to strangeness. His mate is also strange, but he loves her dearly. Sometimes he feels angry when he looks at her, but he's not angry at her. That worries him, and when he starts to worry he starts to think and when that happens things feel a bit like they're unraveling all around him. There is one dragon he hates more than anything, but he doesn't know why. Michaelis is strange, but so is he, and the imperial has always been gentle and kind as far as he knows. He heard rumors that the black-robed dragon was a demon. Maybe that was it, maybe demons are just meant to be hated, but that doesn't seem very fair to Ophan. He tries not to worry about it and tries to be nice to the imperial whenever he sees him. He can't stop himself from hating him though. |
