Sibling Explorers
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━«
Background: Each the constant companion to the other, the siblings make their way together as explorers. Adderbreize, the sister, is a fantastic and focused combatant; dispatching her enemies with a unique combat style employing her wings reinforced by electrified metal frames. Adderblaize is endlessly curious, and knowledgeable a scholar bent on discovery. Both have essential skills geared towards exploration, particularly together.

Now joined with the Sleetspines, the siblings are often away on expeditions sanctioned or dictated by Leon.

Themes: Exploration, sibling companionship, wonder, unique combat, discovery.

Goals: Discover everything they possibly can, and never stop.

Stumbling on Sleetspine

Adderbreize’s wing slashed forward, impacting the cave wall and blasting it in with a current of muscle and electricity. She let out a pleased huff, stepping forward into the breach confidently.

“I told you there was a tunnel here. I have gotten fairly good at this, brother dear. The ice rang a little hollow. Good thing, too, otherwise this little network of caves would’ve been a waste of a day,” she said, glancing over her shoulder at him with just the right head tilt of her long imperial neck to convey what would be a grin on anyone else.

It really would be a shame, they’d been sure they’d find something. At the foot of the mountain they’d found rubble, discarded items. Their real age was impossible to tell in the ice, but they’d been hopeful there would be something left of whoever had left them there.

Her brother sighed, stepping in after. “It’s not that I doubted there were more tunnels ’Breize. It’s that it’s the third such wall we’ve breached to get here. There have been no signs of work or claw on any of the caves so far. It’s unlikely that anyone worked this far into the mountain. What we found might have been the refuge from a large gathering, one of the first, of nomadic clans,” Adderblaize supposited and then froze.

His sister’s grin had already shaken out of her posture as she turned her head each which way, and let out a low and whistling hiss.

“Or...or,” the scholar, continued, breathlessly, as he looked over the hall, hall not tunnel, and its architecture. “I shouldn’t have doubted you. At all, apparently,” he finished, scrambling over to the tunnel’s wall and tracing over it with a claw, fascinated.

Now behind him his sister, shifted around, kicking the rubble she’d blown in back out into the cavern system they’d entered from. “Looks strange, those columns~” she said, knowing she didn’t need to say much to prompt her brother’s outpouring of expertise. Just gestured a wing.
They’d luckily missed breaking any of them, because they were fascinating, honestly. Each seemed to be made of ice flecked with, well she wasn’t sure what, but with something, and glowing from the inside with gentle light. They were spaced regularly enough to give the place a sort of evenly lit feel. And the walls held carvings in careful relief, of entirely foreign design.

Adderblaize took in a deep breath as he studied them, one claw carefully adjusting his glasses as he started walking along the wall, entranced utterly.

“It’s because they are strange. At least in this part of the world, this is Light architecture. Classical too, only an era or two after Pillarfall. And carved more delicately, too. Mirrorlight, is the name, it’s modeled after the ruins from the Promenade itself, exalted by Imperial claws originally. But these are, much of the work is smaller. And while it’s definitely derived from the Mirrorlight stylists, it’s,” he exhaled again, wings fluttering before folding neatly against his back again as he gestured for his sister to sidle along beside him.

Adderbrieze did, standing beside him, keeping one eye off to the side at all times, wariness always paid when plumbing ancient ruins, but well-

While the history was her brother’s expertise, it still was rather majestic, wasn’t it?

“It’s utterly unique. In my opinion it’s an elevation of the form, honestly. Merged perfectly with the native materials. And isn’t that remarkable? How old is this place? What is it’s story, do you wonder? They may have left records, perhaps. The Lightweaver’s flock always have been meticulous with records, I can only imagine one habitating in the Warden’s demenses had to be similar. Perhaps it was an embassy of some kind? From not long after the Flights were forming?” he mused, continuing along the wall, exploring nooks and the artistry.

It was all awe and marveling, until his claw caught on something beside one of the columns. He let out a disgruntled growl, tugging-

And both the floor and the wall, slid away, revealing a staircase, which they were both standing upon.

One or both of them squealed, and it was definitely Adderblaize who let out a yelp as one of his sister’s electrified wings zapped the sensitive membrane of his own as they stumbled down and down.

Either one of them could have caught their footing, but in the fall, and the scramble, the hall just didn’t have enough room to support two half entwined and startled imperials to get purchase.

Several terrifyingly long seconds later, they slammed into and through another apparently hidden door, only to sprawl out on the floor of a broad chamber.

A chamber designed around a single large table covered in maps and ice models. And surrounded by dragons.

It was scants moments before the table was bristling with breath cradled between fangs, weapons drawn to bear, claws readied to pounce. Other imperials, ridgebacks-

And a single, very calm, masked fae perched atop a model of their very mountain on the table, presiding over all that regarded them with steely impassivity. Both siblings stared over the scene with incredulity, for a long moment, before Adderbreize cleared her throat.

“Don’t suppose you could direct us to your architect, by any chance? My brother would like to pay his respects. Also we may have accidentally discovered a back way into your castle. Fortress? Space, here. We thought these were ruins.”

The dragons arrayed against them didn’t relax immediately, but some of the tension collapsed, turning simply wary. The stern eyes behind that mask blinked twice. His wings fluttered gently, and he glid down from the mountain to the table’s edge, making a gesture with one claw that set the other dragons to relaxing finally, as he observed the siblings; who were busy carefully picking themselves up.

“I see. We will talk. You may call me Leon. Leon Sleetspine. And yes. This is my clan’s castle.”
