"No child of the earth - for make no mistake, we are all children of the earth - should ever feel unwanted or as a burden to those around them."
❁ STORY
The earth comes alive to his magic - monsters of chalk, graphite demons, sentinels carved from the purest gems buried in the rock. Aresh can summon life into any earthen material (some call it an echo of Earthshaker's own powers). His creations lack the intelligence of Tahvi's golems or warmth of Tarryn's pirrik, but they are more numerous and can be imbued with a directive: to defend the lair, tend pastures, mend structures, or, in the case of that one grumpy sandstone creature that hangs out at the Lodge and may or may not have been touched by the Shade, make use of limited intelligence to function as a guide for guests. They are, at their core, earthen materials held together and fueled by his magic and often remain amorphous or shifting shapes until they dissolve on a brisk wind. Aresh is dust devils and runic circles and shimmering motes and inexplicable breezes. A teasing, smiling dragon who can conjure life from... somewhere and bestow a rudimentary liveliness into the earth. Most of the time he uses his magic to provide aid to the clan (or for clever puppet shows for hatchling entertainment), but he has a wide petty streak that sometimes finds its own uses for his skills. Such as that one time a ship captain annoyed him so he summoned a sand creature that formed a bank just below the waves and the ship... ran aground. Not one for social situations, by any means, Aresh prefers the wilderness of the lair to the often bustling docks. Even so, he spends plenty of time on the less popular beach areas and visits Ellander on the islands off the coast almost as often as he spends in the deserts to the south. He has even been known to hang out with Khazamaran on the burial island, something she no doubt finds distasteful, and yet they have a shared interest in summoning magic (hers leans a little darker than his, but nonetheless they are similar magics). Plus she has a great collection of bones. They get his stamp of approval, naturally. And when he is required to interact with others, he's nowhere near as onerous as Fen, for instance, and typically manages to hold his own in a conversation, a concession he makes for those who let him dwell among them. (Although, honestly, his presence makes complete sense and no one knows where else he'd go.) He believes that since he lives among them that he is required to contribute. Whether or not anyone else would enforce this is debatable, but regardless, Aresh is a steadfast, loyal dragon who can always be depended upon. If he gives his word to do something it will always be done. To change his mind or talk him out of it is like trying to move mountains. Many in the lair appreciate his blunt honesty and matter-of-fact way of looking at most situations but others find him difficult to understand. He's been called inflexible and stubborn before and while this can be a strength, it can also chafe against more carefree dragons. If there's one thing Aresh shares with the values of the Reliquary, it is a deep abhorrence for injustice or persecution of any kind. It is his unwavering belief that every single soul who walks the earth - be they dragon or beastfolk or anything else - they all deserve the exact same level of respect. At times it's a childlike wonder in his eyes whenever he meets someone new, sees something special. He can be stubborn and frustrating, yes, but there's as much awe in him as there is in any soul. Riverstone believes the earth has feeling and while Tahvi might keep silent on her opinion on the matter, Aresh stands in testimony to the fact that – if nothing else – there are some things even the earth will not be silent witness to. ❁ OTHER
