Memento mori (Latin: "remember that you have to die") is the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits.

Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and by turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife.

This curse would be traced down his lineage. All Vigil's children were destined to die, like any dragon. But they would be given a second chance. It was up to the children if they would accept the bargain.

Savanna, named for the place where she was born. She was a warrior, and grew up in a world unlike any other. Conflict, a war to be precise, tore her away from her parents and siblings before they'd even hatched. She grew up learning out to fight her way out of almost anything, and how to steal food in the marketplace.

Savanna got good, really good. But one day she was caught, and instead of sending her off with a beating or stealing from her in return, he sold her. To the army. For two years she was trained up and taught how to fight, but complied quickly once she realized that she was well taken care of and was properly fed. Everything went well until that one fateful day when she was assigned to the front lines.

She fought with all that she had, but that day the Beastclans had more. Dragons she considered brothers were dying all around her and there was nothing she could do but lay there, her life on the line. She was nothing but a bloodied mess, and the healers looked over her at the more manageable wounds, searching for those that had a chance to live. They just shook their heads at her and wondered why she was still alive after so much blood loss, an that it would take a miracle for her to pull through. That was when her pearl broke, along with her spirit. After that she heaved a sigh of relief, her hardship was finally over. Not long after that she took her last breath, and exhale one last time, the world around her becoming a blurry mess.

Suddenly a spirit appeared to her, not on the battlefield where she had died, but in what seemed to be a void of darkness, and it was the only light. It came closer to her, and it asked, "Do you wish to live?"

"Yes!" She cried immediately, her life had not been lived, and she was still convinced that there was more out there to the world than what her small life had proven. She wanted to live again, to explore the world and find the dragons that had lost an egg.

"What price would you pay?"

"Anything!" She pleaded with the spirit.

"Very well then. Arise Reoz, legendary warrior, and live again. We will meet again, but now is not your time to go."

Roez lived again, waking up from her spot on the battlefield, her heart wounded, but her body intact.
