____Nero loved Azi like a father while Azi saw Nero both as his son and charge. So, when Azi died on the battlefield, Nero was absolutely heartbroken. He wasn’t there to see it. To see the one he regarded as family and who had taken care of him for years fall to the Darktouched Chimera who’s claws were permanently stained with the blood of the Guardian.

____No one could explain how such a strong and enormous dragon could be taken down by such a creature, but it didn’t matter. What mattered was that the Darktouched Chimera had killed one of their own and there was nothing they could do about it. Nero wanted to exact revenge, but the beast had already been goaded off a cliff, into the ocean.

____He’d found out when against his Lafaan's wishes, he had went out to see what he could do to assist his clanmates. To his surprise and horror, though, he came upon his dying father when he stopped in a clearing. At first, thinking it was some rogue Nightspinner who had died an unfortunate death, Nero suddenly recognized the collapsed dragon. Trying to honor his “father”, he tried to stop his tears, even as his rival Tozara comforted him. Without her noticing, he quietly gathered some of the ash from Azi’s body and stored it into a small pendant. Once he closed the necklace, the gemstone started to glow faintly, a sign that Azi’s spirit was among him, protecting him just as he had done in life.

____Today, Nero still hasn’t forgotten about Azi. The glowing pendant still continues to guide him through life and protect him in danger just as a real father would. The Coatl still regrets that he couldn’t be there to protect his loved one as he had done so for him. But the spirit of Azi soothes his mind whenever the thought pops up in his head, reassuring him and telling him it wasn’t his fault, that he had been the more than just a charge; that he had been his son.

____The dark-colored Guardian is still Nero’s father, and the green-winged Coatl still is Aki’s son. Even separated by life and death, the two are still family..
