Biography

please return to smthelj after breeding~

Starting Clan: smthelj

The tradition in this dragon's home lair dictates that one should only get a name once they have found confidence in themselves. Unfortunately for this boy, he's painfully shy and feels inferior to his more successful siblings. So now he's gathered all his courage and is going to travel the world to find himself!

(A very timid young dragon. Talks quietly and sometimes with a stutter. A lady Nocturne has recently taken fancy to him, but he's certain that she's going to find someone better any day now.)
Left with 20 Herdbeast Hooves and 20 Dried Jerky

IMPORANT NOTE: once this dragon gets a name he should be returned home - unless someone wants to house him and can provide a lore reason.

Starting lair: smthelj

First lair visited: Clan Improbable (seige)
The spotted lady Skydancer was headed right for him. The Nameless One tried to blend into the rock wall behind him. He wondered why he had to be born a breed where the females looked like they could break him in half. A Stonewatch Scrub was poking him in the backside, but that was preferable to speaking with a strange female.

“Hello there! Yoohoo!! You can stop trying to hide. We’ve already seen you, “ trilled the Skydancer.. I’m Selima. My friends are Umbra and Baphomet. We don’t mind you watching us hunt the Roost. You can join us, if you like

Nameless One tried to sidle around a boulder, but was pinned when his tail got caught in a crevice in the rock. The lady, Selima did she say, stopped a few feet away from him. Nameless One felt the heat of a blush creep down from the tips of his wings to his feet. He couldn’t reach to free his tail; he couldn’t even turn to hide his face. He screwed up all his courage, looked at the ground. “H-h-help me, please. My tail is c-c-c-c-caught.”

Selima peered around his backside and chuckled, “Only if you promise not to run away. But that does look uncomfortable. I think I can fix.”

The young Skydancer male with no name shrunk with embarrassment as Selima flicked his tail out of the crevice. It took every bit of his willpower not to take off at a gallop, though he did wish fervently for the ground to swallow him up. “Th-th-th-thank you. Sorry to be a bother.” He enunciated each word slowly and carefully to keep the blasted stutter at bay.

“You’re most welcome. But it was no bother at all. We all get into a pickle sometimes. Just some passing deity reminding us that our plans don’t really mean much but friends mean a great deal. What’s your name? We’d love you to join us for snacksies. Battling Roost beasties makes you hungry. Where are my manners? Would you like to battle a bit? I can sit out and let you have some fun. Nothing quite like bashing beasties. I talk too much, don’t I? I’ll shut up and let you get a word in edgewise.”

The Nameless One took a deep breath and felt his blush deepen. “I can’t b-b-battle. Because I don’t have a name. I can’t have a name until I get self-confidence, b-b-but I can’t get self confidence from battle. It’s d-d-d-d-d-dreadfully complicated.”

Selima, who had been leaning to hear his whisper, straightened up and shouted, “Whose bloody brilliant idea was that?”

Nameless shrugged, “Tradition,” he sighed.

Selima rolled her eyes, “Oh, that! I’ve banged my head on that stone wall a time or two. Let’s go down and have snacksies. Perhaps the girls might have an idea or two.”

---
So Nameless went and enjoyed “snacksies” with Selima, Umbra, and Baphomet. The mixed greens and moth wings were delightful and the company was not as bad as he had feared it would be. He even managed to venture a small joke or two and barely stuttered at all. He declined, however, to return to their lair with them. The bit about “not too big -- less than two hundred dragons” sent a quiver of fear through his belly. The ladies packed up what was left over from the picnic in a green bag and gave it to him. They refused to trade him for the meat he had with him. He said his goodbyes and sailed off to whatever he met next.

Gift: Mage’s Thicket Bag, food

Second lair visited: LadyChipmunk's Travels Rest

The unnamed Skydancer had been traveling aimlessly for some time. Uncertain where to go, he landed in a dusty, sere land of sand and sun-baked rock. He'd used up all his food, and was no closer to finding a path to his name. He despaired of ever getting to return home.

But, for now, he needed rest and food. Not necessarily in that order. The problem was, there seemed to be nothing but dirt and stone as far as the eye could see. At least that's what he thought until a quiet voice spoke from behind him.

"Are you lost?"

The Skydancer nearly jumped out of his skin, whirling to find out if he needed to flee or cower. There was no one there. "He-hello?" He shrunk down, muscles tensed to leap into the air at any moment.

"Hi!" The voice sounded friendly, but it came from thin air. "Do you need help? My lair isn't fair."

"You're a dr--dragon?" The Skydancer trembled. "A gh-ghost dragon?"

"Ghost? Oh!" There was the sound of ruffling cloth and then a shiny yellow coatl with streaming red hair stood before him. "Sorry. Been wearing that invisibility cloak so long now I forget it's there." The little dragon held out a hand. "Aventurine. You are?"

The Skydancer took the hand, shaking it tentatively. "I don't have a name yet. I'm...I'm trying to earn it."

"Oookaaay. Takes all kinds, I guess. You want a hot meal and a comfy place to sleep while you do that?"

"Ye-yes, please."

Aventurine started strolling, leading the Skydancer to a large lair full of every kind of dragon and other creature. Pixies played games with hatchlings and Maran and Serthis bickered playfully, one group poking out of deep pools in the lair itself, the other beside the water sunning in beams of light let in by stained glass set into the roof of the giant caves.

It was utterly overwhelming. "Ah!" The Skydancer whirled, trying to take in everything at once. Unable to process all the attention and noise, the poor dragon curled up and whimpered.

He heard all the noise fade, and then a kind, female voice reached him. "Poor darling. I know our home can be a bit much. Let me give you some supplies, and you can sleep in one of the empty caverns for now. When you're ready we will help you on your way."

A gentle hand helped him up; he kept his eyes shut tight. He didn't open them again until he was left in a quiet place and he heard the footsteps of the other dragon retreating. When he did he found his bag, piles of food, and a warm, fluffy tail cozy. He grabbed that and held it close. It's make an excellent pillow.

Tomorrow he'd leave.

Clan Improbable (seige)

After he fled Travels Rest at first light, Nameless made his way back to Harpy’s Roost. He kicked at the dirt in the spot he had picniced with Selima and her friends. “I made a proper fool of myself didn’t I? Stupid idea to come here -- like they’d be here waiting for me to return. They probably forgot about me before I was out of sight. I didn’t stutter too much with them. Why don’t I stutter when I’m talking to myself?”

He heard footfalls and a low humming coming toward him and looked around frantically for somewhere to hide. A blue Coatl, rounded a boulder. “Oh, hello! I’m Denver of Clam Improbable. Who might you be?”

Nameless remembered that Selima was from Clan Improbable. He trembled and blushed and raised his head, but averted his eyes. “D-d-d-do you know Selima? I met her and her friends here once.”

Denver smiled, “Indeed, I know Selima. Bit chatty but a good heart. She’s back at the lair. Let me grab some Milkweed and we can go back and see her.”

Nameless visibly recoiled, “N-n-n-no, n-n-n-no. T-t-t-too many d-d-d-d-d-dragons. N-n-n-o!.”

The Coatl’s voice dropped several octaves, “It’s okay. We don’t have to. Calm down. You’re safe. I think Selima told me about you; you can’t have a name yet. Is that right?”

Nameless nodded and looked at the ground. His scales felt like they were on fire. He wondered if he could die from blushing.

Denver perched on a rock. “I think I’ll call you N. So, N, tell me why you can’t have a name.” The Coatl held up a hand, “But don’t say it: sing it.”

Nameless looked around to make sure they were alone and drew a deep breath and opened his mouth to let flow a rich, vibrant baritone:

“I must earn my name by finding con-fidence.”

As the last echoes faded a Fallen Streak landed and sat at the Skydancer’s feet.

Chills ran the length of Denver’s spine. Nameless was bewildered.

“W-w-w-what h--h-h-happened?

Denver shook his head, “Sing it!”

“Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-t happened? How did I do that?”

“I think you may have found a way to stop the stutter.” Denver chuckled. “And your voice charmed that Fallen Streak right out of the sky, and not just him. Look.” Denver pointed upward. Dozens of Harpys of every color soared and circled in a rapturous dance. “Your voice is amazing. Have you had training?”

Nameless shook his head, “B-b-b-b-but I c-c-c-c-can’t just b-burst into song -- everyone will look at me.”

“Only in awe of that great voice, but I can help with the looking,” Denver began rummaging in his satchel, “I know it’s in here -- aha!”

He fluttered up and fitted a mask over the head and neck of the Skydancer, “There! They can look and see the mask.”

“Do you really think it would work?”

Denver refrained from mentioning that the Skydancer hadn’t stuttered in the last sentence, “Only one way to find out. Let’s go meet the clan.”

A fine quiver ran through the Skydancer’s wings, “If I get frightened, can I leave?”

The Coatl smiled, “If you get frightened, you can sing out hello and make them awestruck with that voice. But, yes, you can leave whenever you like.”

Nameless screwed up his courage and nodded. “I. Shall. Try.” he trilled.

Gifts given: Fallen Streak, Contrast Rogue Mask, possible help for stuttering

Hearthhome Citadel (Starwindrider)

Nameless had actually chosen the worse time to visit this Clan. Not only were the elemental fires especially searing at this point of time, the Clan seemed to be in a conflict of sorts.

His guide and guard, a fellow Skydancer named Sass who radiated an aura of confidence and karma that fitted his name, kept him safe and occupied during his stay, but didn't really help much with his stuttering.

"I....I...." Nameless decided to bring it up one day, but he couldn't help but think the older Skydancer would judge him. Sass looked at him curiously.

"What's wrong?" Sass asked.

Don't say it, sing it.

"I want to find my own name," he sang softly.

Sass tilted his head curiously. "That's really interesting!" he commented. "Don't worry, brother, I'm sure you will find your name in due time."

Nameless gained his confidence by singing into the roaring flames of the Ashfall Wastes, where few dragons save himself were able to hear it. But he attracted many critters, curious Jackalopes and soaring Harpies that used the smoke as a cover but still hovered around to listen.

Upon leaving the Clan and exchanging goodbyes with his "brother" Sass, Nameless realised he had way more confidence now. Maybe, maybe, he was getting closer than he realised to getting his name...

Received: More confidence and pretty much cured his stuttering.

Those Who Wander (ElliotKin)

The nameless dragons journey was not yet done, his quest was not complete. His aimless flying found him now above the Starfall Isles. The juting pink mountains reaching for the starts through the swirling nebulas that blanketed the land, gave Nameless a strange feeling of calm as he traveled.

A beautiful crystal lake caught the nameless dragons attention and pulled him down from the sky. He landed gently on the shore and over looked the lake as the reflection of the stars glowed on it's surface. How beautiful, he thought. He was compelled to sing.

"Howww Beautifuulllll..."

His voice echoed though the trees, carrying on for several seconds after he had gone quite.

"It is isn't it?"

The sudden voice behind him sent a chill down his back, but he didn't jump. He slowly turned to meet the dragon that had found him. His eyes fell on a beautiful Female Pearlcatcher, the light from the moon glinting off of the roses and crown that adorned her. She walked up beside Nameless and looked over the water with him.

"You have a beautiful voice my dear. Your truly gifted. My name is Primrose, what my I call you?"
"I... I don't have a name yet. I have to find it on my own.."
"I see. Do you feel that your close?"

Nameless looked down at the ground. He felt his throat tighten as he struggled to think of an answer. He couldn't speak, so he sang.

"I don't know... I've come so faaarrr but it's just not faarr enough."
"You'll get there in due time my dear. I know you will. Come with me. It's getting colder out here. You can stay with my clan for a while."

Nameless froze at the thought of being around so many dragons, but Primrose wouldn't take no for an answer. After much reassurance, Nameless fallowed Primrose back to her clans lair. Many many colorful dragons of all flights and breeds watched him, this strange new dragon, enter their lair. As they walked, the many dragons would bow their heads to Primrose.

Primrose lead Nameless to a room of his own to stay in until he was ready to continue on his journey. A few days passed by and Nameless prepared to take his leave. As he gathered his few things a dragon he hadn't yet seen aproched him. The dark male skydancer seemed to resent his very presence. Nameless shrunk as he felt the intense aura of hate. The skydancer backed him into a corner and looked him up and down.

"I've heard our Queen took a liking to you, you... Nameless runt. I can't stand dragons like you. Coming into our lair, using our resorses and then leaving like we're some sort of inn. Who do you think you are?"

Nameless felt something rising within him. Something he had never felt before. He stood up tall even when his legs felt they would buckle. 'who do you think you are?' Nameless felt it on the tip of his tongue, he was ready to sing it loud.

"Who am I? Who am III? My nammmee...-"

It didn't come, but that didn't stop Nameless. He wasn't afraid to keep singing. Not anymore.

"My name with come when the time is right, and I'll sing it for all who will hear! I'll sing it to the heavens, I'll sing it to the skyyy, I'll sing it once it's finally minnne!"

Nameless felt proud as he walked by the dark skydancer and couldn't stop himself from smiling. He was beaming. As he took his leave, he waved and thanked Primrose then took to the sky. He was so much closer than he once was to finding his name, he could feel it.
