History:
When he was born, Cumulus was ostracized from his family, who didn’t accept him because his eyes were different. They abandoned him in the Reedcleft Ascent, where he wandered about for a day, subsisting on the natural foods in the region. Afterwards, he decided that he needed to find a home. So he struggled to make his way out of the towering Reedcleft Ascent. It was a long and difficult journey as the strong winds pushed his weak body around like a rag doll in a storm. As he made his way to the Zephyr Steppes, he also taught himself to fly.
He then travelled southeast, and reached the Ashfall Waste, the realm of the Fire Dragons. There, was nearly captured by fire dragons who were excited about seeing a primal dragon for the first time. He escaped, but nearly fell into a lava puddle. Time and time again, he asked around for a clan that could accept him, but they were either too disgusted or they wanted to capture him for experiments and research. With no clan to take refuge in, Cumulus ran east, to the Shifting Expanse.
He wandered the Highland Scrub for several days, eating whatever he could. At this point, he was captured by some Ridgebacks and became the subject of their research. A few days passed before he escaped and set out again. By this time he had become quite adept at flying, and when he came to the Sea of a Thousand Currents he was able to fly across the tidal pools in the Tsunami Flats. It was there that he found NovaBlu’s clan and was welcomed by all the dragons inside. He had good food, he had shelter, he had a place to stay.
He had a home.

Lore:
Cumulus sighed as the hot sun burned his He was walking in the lightning region. The Shifting Expanse. It was his first time, and he was still searching for a good home that would accept him.
Or at least, he was until he tripped. All of a sudden, parts of the ground rose up and formed a box shape, which encased him, plunging him into darkness.
A tripwire! he realised. He panicked and grabbed his pearl tightly. It was totally pitch black. He heard a hiss as some kind of gas was sprayed into the box, tank, whatever you called it.
I can’t see! he thought, as he curled up in a corner, his pearl in his paws.
Then it no longer mattered, because one whiff of the gas and he was forcefully thrown into the dark abyss of sleep, his pearl lying by his side.

When he woke up it was in a glass tank. The top was metal, maybe steel or iron. There were two areas that were bordered by metal, one small, one big enough for him to squeeze through. They looked like they could slide open.
“Oh. You’re awake. Good.”
“Ah!” Cumulus exclaimed in shock, as he looked up and realised there was someone else in the room. A Ridgeback. Wearing a lab coat. And safety goggles.
What were they going to do to him?!
He held on tighter to his pearl as the Ridgeback walked over. Its whole body was jet black, contrasting with the colour of its white lab coat, and its wings were teal, just a bit darker than the eyes that stared at him inquisitively.
Despite the situation, Cumulus’s stomach growled.
“You’re hungry, aren’t you?” remarked the Ridgeback, shaking his spiny head. “Let me get you some food.” He grabbed a piece of weird-looking meat. Then he waved his paw in front of the smaller door. Strangely, it opened. The dragon slid the strange meat inside, took his paw out, and the door automatically slid closed. Cumulus recoiled. The meat smelled weird.
“Right. I forget you don’t eat seafood.” muttered the Ridgeback. He took out the strange meat and put it on a table. “Okay. I’m just gonna go out and get something for you to eat. Maybe something that also can be found in the place you come from. Yeah.” He glanced once more at the primal-eyed Pearlcatcher, then turned away and walked out. Once the door (also automatic) swished shut, Cumulus put his paws over his face, covering the green mist surrounding his eyes.
WHY CAN’T I JUST BE NORMAL!? WHY DO I HAVE TO HAVE THESE STUPID EYES!? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!?
The thoughts swirled through his head like a tornado, only the tornado was made of fire and it was burning him from inside out.
Okay, he thought, composing himself. First things first. How do I get out of here?
Brute force… probably wouldn’t work. The walls that trapped him looked really strong. And who knows, maybe it could be plastic. The lightning flight’s geniuses were so smart that they probably knew how to make special reinforced plastic by now. So smashing the walls was out of the question.
Were there any ways of getting out that did not involve accidentally dying?
Before he could think of anything, the Ridgeback came back with a leaf that he recognised.
“Here.” he muttered, putting the leaf into the cage again. “Food.”
Cumulus approached the leaf hesitantly, then put it into his mouth and chewed.
It tasted exactly like home.
Then he felt woozy, and for the second time in a day, he collapsed and was dragged back into oblivion, snoring soundly.
He woke up, limbs shackled. His neck was fixed to the ground by an iron collar. And he was surrounded by Ridgebacks. On a table.
“Okay,” said one Ridgeback, the same one he had seen back in the lab. “We’re gonna do some tests on you. Just some tests. You’re gonna be alright.”
Did he believe that? That they weren’t going to hurt him?
No. He didn’t.
He struggled against his bonds, but to no avail. “GET ME OUT OF HERE!!” he screamed, mustering all the energy in his body, then shoving it against the metal cuffs.
Again and again he tried to escape. The Ridgebacks laid against the crumbling wall of the ruins as they watched Cumulus struggle. They thought he wouldn't get away.
They were wrong.
One…
Two…
THREE!
Cumulus jerked his body upwards, smashing it against the cuffs.
The bonds shattered like they were glass. The Ridgebacks stared in shock, and reconsidered their idea of an open-air experimental area as the young Pearlcatcher shot off the table like it was as hot as lava, grabbed his pearl, and zoomed into the sky, never to be seen by them again.
He was free.
