Poppet was made, not born. An empty husk made to hold the spirit of an ancient city of vice and sin. Though a functioning body and mind, the mind was not her own for a very long time. The spirit, Gomorrah, made Poppet's body in a terrible ritual that sacrificed her old vessel and several servants, causing the spirit to immediately occupy the poppet. After settling into her new body, she stalked a group of mindless dragons that behaved much like insects do in a Hive. Gomorrah watched and waited until a new nest of Hivemind dragons was laid. She stole away with an egg and performed a new ritual to changed the hatchling within with her dark magics, making a stronger body directly from a fresh source finally. Her previous body had been a weak, waifish pre-existing dragon and unfortunately, the poppet's body wasn't suited for more vile work. It was far easier to build a better body with a fresh egg. The ritual lasted five days and as the sun rose on the sixth day, the Hijacker child hatched and Gomorrah moved into the new vessel, leaving Poppet an empty shell... or so they'd both thought. From there it was easy work for Gomorrah to hijack the Hive that had donated her new body and continue with her plans for reunion and absolution. Meanwhile, Poppet's mind started to wake up. She obeyed Gomorrah mindlessly for a time, a useful servant, luring in passerby dragons by pretending to be a lost hatchling to be assimilated and added to Gomorrah's growing army of Hivemind dragons. When she wasn't being told what to do however, sh found she'd be curious... and sad. She'd ask the Hivemind dragons to play or simply look for any conversation and get a blank look. Gomorrah and Zeboim would either only ever give her new tasks to complete. Go lure in outsiders, watch the nests, sweep the halls, organize the spellbooks.... the books.

Yes, the books always made her pause in her work. Slowly as she had to look at them to put them away correctly, the magic in her helped her learn how to read without any proper training and so she began to secretly read in between jobs. Days she was told to go out and lure in more dragons, she'd instead wander very far and one day came across a strange, squishy creature with many bulbous eyes blowing bubbles. It looked... sort of like a dragon and it kept changing size, she wasn't sure it'd be a good fit for the Hive, but she tried luring it back anyway, which wasn't very hard, it chased her! With a very hungry look in its eye. When she got close to home, she shouted for an Assimilator and the poor Hive Drone was eaten immediately stopping the chase. The squishy dragon happily slurped down its prey, then looked at Poppet again. She froze in fear, until it... smiled at her? It wasn't clear, but it 'thanked' her for the meal with a quick twisty hug and began talking with her.

She'd always wanted to just talk with someone sometimes and what a change in her life it was. The creature was very happy to be called an 'Anomaly' and picked up the word as its name. It was a she it turned out and she was very chatty and Poppet couldn't help, but let her stick around just for that. She required feeding though and Poppet always secretly took a Drone with her when she went to hang out with Anomaly. Anomaly eventually would start hunting them on her own, seeing Poppet as a friend and never as food, especially when Poppet started bringing the books as well. They'd read aloud to each other and Anomaly taught Poppet how to play games like hide and seek.

There were a few close calls, Gomorrah had noticed her Hive slowly getting culled and annoyed, she summoned another, but far less powerful Spirit like her and Zeboim to help her keep an eye on things. One of a many, Wendigo had no memory of his life or name from before he became a Wendigo, but he understood his job and was a natural hunter. Though Gomorrah and Zeboim were busy with their work, he caught on very quick that Poppet's little excursions were causing the Drones' disappearances. He spied on her constantly and saw Anomaly eating Drones first hand, but for some reason, unknown to Poppet herself, he never gave them away. In fact, he too started speaking with Anomaly.

Unfortunately... or fortunately, Gomorrah was starting to grow impatient with Wendigo's 'investigation' and gave him a deadline. That night he awoke Poppet, took her and Anomaly and fled the Hive. Confused and a little scared of this sudden change in her life everything seemed to go by so fast to Poppet. They met up with several other blobby dragons that were like Anomaly, though they'd been far more sentient than she was when Poppet first met her. The ringleader was a female Snapper who promised she and Wendigo would protect her. Unsure at first, Poppet was quiet and wary of this new group of dragons, but over time, due to their kindness and understanding, she's come around and has never felt more 'normal'. She still feels the tug of a compulsion in her to return to her master, Gomorrah, but the link is weak and she's even started to learn to transform like her friends into a larger, more powerful body that can defend itself. Wendigo has personally started teaching her how to fight and her time with him especially has made her feel something else new and strange. The other dragons are all her friends, yes, but she seems to feel happier when she sees him now. She's not sure why, but she knows she likes it.
