Biography

The Paladin
Background: Imith was a dragon who came from darkness and thorns. He should have grown up as shadowy as his home in the secluded domain of the Shadowbinder. But he was born with a great compassion for all life, and love of helping others. He became a paladin at a young age, and found his way to Ice flight, striving for a new home where he could live an honorable life. Along the way, his childhood friend, Indocarpe, encouraged him to embrace his dark heritage as a shadow dragon. To not see the darkness as evil, or to be shunned, but that the brightest lights could only shine under a midnight sky.‹━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━« Themes: Service, duty, divinity, self acceptance Goals: Use his natural abilities to protect his clan and serve the Icewarden
Shadow on Sleetspine
Imith stood beneath the night sky on an overlook balcony of the clan's castle. The doors behind him were shut against the twilight luminescence that suffused the halls, leaving him in the moonless dark. The stars above were numinous, their numbers vast and twinkling, made more brilliant by the depth of the dark around them. Just as Indocarpe had told him years ago, how she'd helped him to embrace his heritage. Wings flaring, body moving in a sinuous line, he leaped from the balcony, gliding down the slopes of their mountain, their castle. As he flew he turned in languid but precise arcs, shadow stretching behind him strangely, obscuring his way for long seconds from starlight. He was no great wielder of magics, no architect, no battle sorcerer, just a Paladin, but he set his prayer down into the ice and stone. Into the crevasses and shadows, into all the places light would fall and light would not. Icewarden. Shadowbinder. Lightweaver. Know that this place I will defend. Know this, that the faithful live here. If battle comes, let this place hold fast for us. Let ledges break for our enemies, and shelter us. Let nothing melt us, let nothing hold us, let our blood trip and blind them, and may we always have clear sight and clear minds on this holy ground. In these shadows, under the sun, on the Ice. His shadow exhaled as he chanted the words in his mind, moving over them with an earnestness he brought to much of his work. The shadow-breath lingered like a mist, before sinking into the ground. It was faint, but he performed this ritual every night without moon, building his prayers up, laying the framework to defend his people, his clan, as a Paladin should. Standing guard. He flew for several hours, till his muscles ached and his body was refreshingly drained, and then he set down again, smiling as he returned to his den and found Indocarpe waiting for him, with food. “Paladins. Always too busy to eat,” his best friend teased him, shaking her head as she waved him inside with a wing. Imith smiled. “And witches, always meddling,” he answered dryly, finally letting himself settle down in front of the bowls of food she’d had prepared. Taking a few bites of exquisitely salted fish, he sighed happily. It was a good night. Duty, prayer, friendship, and food. Life was better, accepting shadow’s own kind of purity, accepting it’s place in his faith and his heart. He looked up at his oldest friend fondly, body held just so in an imperial’s smile. “Thank you, Indo.” “Always.” |
