Biography
Memento mori (Latin: "remember that you have to die") is the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and by turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife. This curse would be traced down his lineage. All Vigil's children were destined to die, like any dragon. But they would be given a second chance. It was up to the children if they would accept the bargain.

When he was a youngling, Claeg was taught by his father to always carry a journal. Record his day, his thoughts, his actions, even when he meets someone interesting. He never understood why his father’s obsession with keeping a journal but nevertheless he kept one all the same. A dark leather bound book that his father gifted him. Quickly, the book was filled and a new one would be started. Soon Claeg has grown to a young male when he decided to venture out to find his own way of life.
The sea is calling...
The sea was always calling him. Ever since he was young, Claeg was drawn to the sea. He would sit along the shore and he wanted to go further. His chance was closer than he thought.
There was commotion within the clan, down by the docks. An ally must be visiting. Claeg could see a rather large imp with a black wolf cape and glowing eyes talking to Viking, the strongest imp Claeg knows. From what he saw, they were friends. Curious, he ventured closer. He started to hear that Viking was sending his young daughter, Skuld to train under the other male, Ragnar. Claeg had heard of him from his time with Viking; a mighty warrior, Captain of the Wolf Song. It wasn’t until Ragnar glanced his way that Viking called out to him;
“Claeg, came here and meet our clan’s allied clan member.” Claeg shyly approached the two. He stood by Viking as he was introduced. Ragnar was much more intimidating than he thought; an obvious equal to Viking. Claeg stood up tall and was surprised when Viking mentioned how he was starting to become a strong fighter. Ragnar was impressed and asked if he ever sailed before. Claeg never sailed before, but always hoped one day.
It was then he was offered to join the Wolf Song. His father was proud and his birth clan agreed to let him join their allied Gemini Clan under the care of Ragnar. Viking even gave him a request to keep an slight eye on his daughter Skuld; a few of her half-siblings are already members of the Gemini Clan and would be excited to meet her.
The winds of the sea, the smell of the salty air, the sounds of the wood beneath his feet and the sails above his head. They began to feel like home. He was introduced to the rest of the crew quickly and started at the lower rank doing the odd jobs and learning the trade. It was during this time he meet some of the other crew members of the other ship that accompanies Ragnar- The Raven’s Call, captained by another of Ragnar’s friends Herleifr. Ragnar was discussing some plans when Claeg meet another Pearlcatcher much like himself, practically the same age too. His name is Tollund, a young male who was a descendant of a proud lineage, the Night Warriors on his father’s side as well as apart of the Fossil collections like both of his parents. He is to be training under Herleifr to become a part of his father’s line. Claeg gripped on the pendant his parents gave him; a ruby set stone with an engraving that read Memento Mori. His lineage’s curse; he’ll never reveal it to anyone; hopefully it’ll allow him to remain.
(He died protecting Ragnar; his Captain, from a deadly blow)
His body was light as a feather. He flouted almost weightlessly in darkness, fear gripped on his heart as he tried to figure out what had happened. The last he remember was fighting with his shipmates against the pirates, Ragnar was in trouble!
Suddenly a spirit appeared to him, joining him in the void as the only source of light practically blinding him. It came closer to him, and it asked, "Do you wish to live?"
"Yes!" He cried immediately, his life had not been lived, and his shipmates still need his help and protection. He wanted to live again, to have a family he never got, and to continue protecting his shipmates.
"What price would you pay?"
"Anything!" He pleaded.
"Very well then. Arise Neander your Captain awaits.”
Ragnar watched as his fallen charge bolted up right. All around jerked away from the young male, confused and frightened. There was a hushed whisper across the ship. Ragnar and the onship healer conversed in private. Neander could smell the salt water and the lights started to dim down enough he could fully open his eyes, taking in the view of his frightened friends.
Ragnar didn’t know what was happening, there were still a few he needed to speak with however, they were on land, a trip still at least a week away. He turned towards the young male and began to approach him.
“Claeg...”
“Neander.” Ragnar stopped, as the young male explained,
“I’ve been renamed Neander now, sir.” Ragnar nodded and continued,
“Neander, there a lot of things I still have questions of. However, you did save my life earlier which lead you to your current state. I want to give you your new rank as General as well as this medal for your bravery.”
Neander was in shock but happily accepted. Nothing much was said to him by his Captain but as of now, he was content to enjoying the sea breeze as the ship makes its journey home with their spoils.
