Biography

Duskthicket Bonepicker
Skitter

When Tolmun was but a young hatchling, he was just as any dragon would expect - a reckless ball of energy and noise, practically unstoppable during daylight hours when hatchlings loved to play. He liked a lot of things, things that your typical hatchling would enjoy - but by far his favorite time was the slow approach of dusk, where every dragon in the Lair would gather for quiet chit-chat and calm activities, getting ready for the sleep that would soon capture them.

And oh, of all the things young Tolmun could love about this time of day, there was nothing he loved more than Storytime. It was not every day, but regardless he would wait excitedly for the appearance of Alba, the resident Bogsneak with veins of gold and a glittering bronze stomach. No matter the stories being told that evening, Tolmun would listen with rapture, allowing for an ever-growing hunger for stories, for knowledge, and for everything that held either of those things.

As he aged and his enthusiasm stuck, Tolmun came to wonder where Alba obtained his stories. Was it a complex case of a creative mind, or had these stories been passed down to his ears?

He got his answer when he gathered the motivation to ask - somewhere on Sornieth there was a traveling dragon that had originally lived among the Family's Lair. This dragon had promised adventures galore to Alba and has never been seen around since.

So what would a normal dragon do with this information? Would they have merely been satisfied then and there, their curiosity satiated and the question forever missing from their minds? No... Tolmun was not that kind of dragon.

As soon as he learned, his pile of questions grew, some of which could not be answered by the Family he had known so long. And he needed answers!

Tolmun had been preparing over past time, preparing for a leave where he himself would go out into the wilds of Sornieth and search out this locally famed dragon. He needed to know. He needed to know.

And now, after a long time coming, he is ready to begin his search.

Tolmun slowly walked towards Alba with nervousness rushing through his veins. “Hello Tolmun, did you enjoy today’s story?” The kind Bogsneak asked the younger male. Alba finally looked closely at the boy he had watched grown up and realized just how old the boy had gotten. He had a woodland brown body with a giraffe pattern on it, while his wings were lighter beige color. If you were lucky enough you would sometimes be able to see the orange ruins around his legs and sides. “I really loved it, but that's what I came to ask you about. Do you just make all the stories up yourself or do you have someone do it?” The young dragon asked curious as to what the older dragon would say. Alba smiled and said with a sad look in his eyes “My son actually sends them to me. Right now in fact he is in the Scarred Wastelands. I think he is in the Abiding Boneyard to be exact, he said he would be staying there for a few days in search for a new story for me.” Alba said with a sad smile, that didn't go unnoticed by Tolmun. “Well i'll be off thank you for the story.” The young dragon said leaving the den and walking towards his own with a new goal.

Tolmun finished saying his goodbyes to his parents before he flew out of the den heading towards the Abiding Boneyard to meet up with Beryl. The dragon wanted to go on adventures, gain knowledge, and learn more about the somewhat famous Beryl. Soon the dragon would know all he had to do was fly for now. It took two days of straight flying to get to the Abiding Boneyard. Tolmun was exhausted but the sight of the dead boneyard plains filled him with hope and a sense of adventure. The young dragon slowly flew over the red ground keeping his eyes peeled for another dragon. After another three days it finally happened. Tolmun swooped low and sure enough there was Beryl strolling down the bone covered plains. A smile overtook the dragons face as he made his way down to his new companion. And boy had Beryl changed. Tolmun noticed all the wood and brightly colored feathers that now covered the dragons. Tolmun jumped back when Beryl growled at him. “Who are you and what do you want.” the older male snapped at the dragon who had landed next to him. “Hello to you to mister, I'm Tolmun, i'm from your Clan. I'm a friend of Alba, well maybe not a friend but I do love to listen to his stores. Which is the reason I came to find you actually. I really want to team up-” Tolmun was cut off by Beryl who snapped “No way will I be teaming up with some hatchling. Now fly along I've got stories to write and adventure to seek.” Tolmun watched as the dragon started to walk away but he jumped in front of him before he could. “Sorry buddy but I won't be taking no for an answer.” Tolmun watched as a small primrose mith flew out from besides Beryl and whispered something in the older dragons ear that caused him to let out an exasperated sigh before looking back over to Tolmun. “Fine, but if your going to stay. You're going to abide by my rules.” Tolmun eagerly nodded nodding his head towards the mith in thanks. And so their partnership began, and it was an odd partnership indeed. Tolmun would talk a mile a minute about every little thing they saw or did while Beryl would just snap at his to be quiet or to shut up, which the Pearlcatcher male always ignore. They pair continued to travel neither knew were they knew adventure would soon find them, and it sure did.

It had been a few days after Tolmun joined up with Beryl and he was about to experience one of the best stories he would ever live through. Tolmun looked in awe at the five Duskthicket Bonepickers surrounding a small pile of some poor creatures skeleton. “Do not move a muscle these things are dangerous and I don't want to deal with them.” Beryl said holding a claw out to stop the other male from walking any further but the Duskthicket Bonepickers turned there head towards the dragons and let out a bone chilling cry. “W...what do we do?” Tolmun asked at the creatures flew towards them claws out and ready to kill. “We fight!” Beryl said before leaping into the air and charging at the Duskthicket Bonepickers. Tolmun wasn't one of the best fighters in his clan but he wasn't useless he knew the basics and was a bit more advanced than some dragons, but obviously not near as advanced as Beryl who took on three of the five creatures with ease and grace. The other two came rushing towards Tolmun. The young dragon took out the first one with a single scratch but the other wouldn't go down as easily. The dragon and creature hit each other back and forth. One would land a painful scratch just for the other to turn around and retaliate with one that could be considered worse. It went on and on until finally Tolmun weakened the creature enough to land the final blow. He leapt up ready to kill but before he could come down on the creature Beryl yelled out “Wait! It's weak! Create a familiar bond!” Tolmun looked at the creature who cowered before him. It would make a good companion. So Tolmun gave the creature a pet on it's head and a small a small bone he found on the ground and just like that they were bonded. “Your name will be Skitter.” Tolmun said to his first ever familiar who make a small squawking noise in return. After that day the two would become inseparable and would go on to have many adventures together.

It had been months since the pair of dragons had started adventuring with each other and they had made many memories good and bad. They had also sent back tons of stories to their clan, the pair was getting more and more popular and some of the stories even spread to other clans. Sure the two dragons weren't perfect and they always seemed to find danger, but they loved it. But things were changing Beryl was starting to get older and as Tolmun came into his prime he started to get more dangerous and bold. And that's what led up to this point. “Beryl it's time you have been adventuring for years. Go back to our clan. Settle down and start a family. The clan will probably give you an amazing role considering how much you've done. Plus i'm sure your family misses you.’’ Tolmun said sadly to the other dragon. He in no way wanted to separate from his friend but he could tell all the adventures were starting to wear down on him. Plus the male had been out here for a lot longer than he had. The two males continued to fight over what they would do before Beryl finally caved and agreed to go home. After a long hug the two males separated. Beryl flew south back towards home while Tolmun and his familiar flew north east towards the Viridian Labyrinth. The now alone male could go on to have many more adventures and find the answers to all the questions he so desperately seeked. The dragon would continue to gain knowledge and his own stories.

A Familiar Encounter
Excerpt in progress...

Quick Notes:
- Tolmun was sold from his birth Lair at a very young age, along with another, more mechanical Pearlcatcher named Valtasiip. They were quickly adopted as the sons of Midas and Dawndust. Up until the day Tolmun left the Lair, the two brothers were nearly inseperable (and even still they are very close to each other).
- Gray-ace panromantic
- Obtains crushes quite easily, but has no current interest in a parter or offspring
