Aisu’s Traveling Tales
~

paperpony_world_tour_by_kiwicide_dciyigz.png

Nightkeeper Sanctum (Darkesty)

Aisu had been gathering the glowing mushrooms, which only grew in the Tangled Wood.
The broken trees and fallen logs made it quite difficult for him to walk there.
Soon glowing sprites surrounded him, beckoning him to follow. They lead him to an
ancient gate, which could no longer be closed. As he stepped through the gate, Aisu
found himself in an odd lair. Roses and violets grew there, the place's many glowing
shrooms giving everything a blue hue. He had not seen anything like it.

He was soon approached by a spiral, who was holding out a bag for him. "I see you
have a lot to carry. Do take this along with your journey" the spiral had said.
Aisu thanked the spiral for the help and took the bag, putting the glowing mushrooms
inside it. He joined the lair's occupants for dinner, before leaving to continue his journey

Item received: A bag!

LadyChipmunk's Travels Rest

Aisu had been traveling over Dragonhome when he spotted a plume of smoke in the distance. Concerned someone might be hurt, he flew over there.

What he found was a large Bogsneak sneezing and wafting smoke from her face. "Hmm. Well, that didn't work. I'm going to have to work on my ratio--why are my scales all swirly?"

Aisu cleared his throat, sure the Bogsneak woman had been unable to see him through the smoke. "Are you okay?"

She turned and blinked at him, eyes made twice as large by the lenses of her goggles. "Hmm? Oh. Yes, yes. Just a minor miscalculation. I don't suppose you'd want a...whatever this is?" She reached into the large cauldron Aisu had missed hidden in the smoke and offered a...pile of slime?

Not wanting to be rude, Aisu took it. "Um, thank you. It's lovely."

"Thanks," the slime said, parts of it oozing to form a smile. "I like you, too."

Aisu stared down at this creation and then back at the Bogsneak, but she'd already stuck her head back in the cauldron and seemed to have forgotten Aisu even existed. With a shrug, he put his slime buddy in the back and took off back in the air.

Gift Given: Cheerful Residue

Clan improbable (seige)

Aisu studies the banners and various statues in the grotto formed by three rocks. The clan who did this was more devout than most. He was admiring the quality of the pine needle embroidery when he heard excited shouts and giggles, punctuated with footsteps heading his way.

“The embers are dropping! The embers are . . . “ A lady Skydancer and a lady Spiral stopped and stared at him.

“Hello, I’m called Aisu -- a traveler.”

The Spiral blinked and a rush of words flew from her mouth, “Hello, I’m Illusionattia -- you can call me Illy -- and this is Cheroya. We’re off to bash beasts and collect embers. It is great fun. This is our first ember-dropping time and we’re so excited. The food always helps too but our stores. . .”

Cheroya leaned close to the the Spiral’s head and whispered, “Illy, stop and breathe. We can’t go bashing if you make yourself pass out.”

Illy shivered and nodded vigorously while she took great gulps of air.

Cheroya turned to Aisu, “She gets excited talking and forgets to breathe. She settles down nicely once she gets into a battle. Just too much nervous energy. Would you like to go bashing with us? Illy would have gotten ‘round to inviting you eventually, I’m sure.”

Illy nodded.

Aisu pondered. He’d never bashed anything before, but it might be fun. “I’ll give it a try.”

So the three set off and bashed a bit until it was time for Aisu to be on his way.

The Aquafire Clan (O1iviaDragon)

In the early morning, Aisu took to the skies and soared through the clouds. It was a perfect day for flying. The skydancer popped to his earbuds in and drowned out the roar of the wind (along with that weird humming sound his cheerful residue had been making for the past hour) with the rhythmic melody of music.

For hours, Aisu completely lost himself to the rhythmic melody coming from his ear buds and completely forgot to watch where he was flying—

BAM!

For a moment, Aisu saw stars as he collided into an imperial dragon.

“Hey, watch where you’re flying.” The imperial dragon growled.

Aisu blinked as he flapped backwards. He shook his head and tried to focus on the dragon in front of him. The skydancer blinked again. The imperial dragon may have been scowling, but she was, by far, the most beautiful dragon he had ever seen.

The imperial dragon pushed the skydancer out of her way. “You should just have taken a picture,” she snarled before she flew off.

Aisu’s cheerful residue popped his head out of the skydancer’s bag. “Floo, floooo,” the gooey creature whistled in the female dragon’s direction.

Aisu quickly shook his head and tried to ignore the sudden heat he felt rushing to his cheeks along with his disappointment. What had he been expecting? He couldn’t possibly hope to catch the attention of such a beautiful and confident dragon like that.

Mamurr! Mamurr!” Aisu’s residue implored as he tugged on one of Aisu’s faceted feathers.

Aisu turned to look at his residue. “What is it Cheery?” He asked.

Cheery opened his mouth wide and pointed to it with a globby stub.

Aisu smiled at his familiar. “Yeah, I am getting kind of hungry too. I’ll make sure to stop at the next island I see, Cheery.”

Cheery made a small purring sound to signify his approval before he drove back inside the skydancer’s bag.
...

Not long after his encounter with the imperial dragon, Aisu spotted an island with a massive castle made entirely of beautiful conch shells. When Aisu landed on the island’s sandy shores the native dragons rushed to meet him. Aisu quickly learned that the natives who inhabited the island were apart of the Aquafire Clan and they had received word that Redstrike Pirates were going to attack their island. They warned Aisu to take cover and offered to let him stay in inside the castle, while they fought off the pirates. Aisu had absolutely no idea who the Redstrike Pirates were, but he tell, based on the fear his antennas felt radiating from native dragons, that they must not be good. The skydancer graciously took up their offer.

A skydancer named Amora led Aisu to the castle entrance. With a few quick twists of a key, Amora had unlocked the palace doors and beckoned for him to follow her. Before Aisu could take another step forward, he heard a loud rumble of thunder. The skydancer hastily looked back and saw massive storm clouds growing the horizon.

“Please tell me those clouds have nothing to do with the Redstrike Pirates,” Aisu mumbled to Amora.

Amora eyed the clouds and bit her lower lip. “I heard that Captain Mallowclaw, the leader of the Redstrike Pirates, could harness the power of storms with his metal hand...I guess those rumors were true.”

Aisu swallowed hard. The skydancer had learned a few things about combat with Cheroya and Illy, but he doubted his bashing skills would be much help against an army of pirates.

Amora grabbed Aisu’s hand. “Aisu, we have got to go.”

With that, the two skydancers ventured deep inside the castle. Aisu expected to see many dragons bustling through the halls, but the only thing filling the castle was silence.

“The rest of us are outside, preparing for battle,” Amora answered his silent question as she began unlocking yet another door.

Once the female skydancer unlocked the door, the chatter of hatchlings flooded the once quiet hallway. Amora gave Aisu a weak smile and gestured for him to go ahead of her. “This is our safe room,” Amora explained.

Aisu peered inside the spacious room and saw of bunch of wide-eyed hatchlings crowding around a small window that showed the outside world.

“I hope you don’t mind the company,” Amora said as she cast a weary glance in the hatchlings’ direction.

“I don’t mind at all.” Aisu replied, softly.

With another weak smile, Amora quickly grabbed Aisu’s hand again and squeezed it once before tucking a key beneath his talons. “Lock the doors behind me and don’t open them for anyone else but me,” the skydancer instructed with a voice that was too quiet for the hatchlings to hear.

“Wait, you’re leaving?” Aisu asked with growing concern. Amora didn’t look like a warrior. She was much smaller than Aisu and skinny—even by skydancer standards. Although, Aisu still would have felt safer with her here, just case the Redstrike Pirates did manage to get inside the castle...

Amora nodded. “They will need my—um—talents out there. Even in the worst case scenario, Aisu, I know be fine. What you learned with Illy and Cheroya may not seem like much, but it will make a huge difference in battle.”

With that, the female skydancer slipped out of the room. Aisu dumbfoundly blinked at the spot where Amora a had been for a long moment. He didn’t remember mentioning anything about Illy and Cheroya to Amora.
...

Aisu stood on the roof of the Aquafire Clan’s castle and looked down upon the war-torn shoreline. The sudden downpour, which had began as soon as the pirates had set anchor, had completely drenched Aisu’s feathers. The skydancer shallowed hard. This is a terrible idea, he thought. He should still be the safe room with the Aquafire Clan’s hatchlings. Although, while he had watched the enemy ships come in with the hatchlings, he saw that beautiful imperial dragon he had ran into this morning and turned his back on all rational thinking. It looked like the Redstrike Pirates had tied her to the mast of their ship and torn her lovely wings apart.

When Aisu was with the hatchlings, he had hoped that the Aquafire Clan’s warriors would be able to save that beautiful imperial dragon, but army of pirates kept the water dragons far away from their ship. Aisu watched a trail of blood ooze from the imperial dragon’s wings. With every minute the Aquafire Clan’s soldiers spent in battle, the imperial dragon lost precious drops of blood. Aisu knew he couldn’t stand by, not when knew that she was dying out there. The skydancer told the hatchlings about this, the young dragons encouraged Aisu to go and showed him a hidden exit that he could slip out off, unnoticed.

And now, Aisu stood on the roof top of the Aquafire Clan’s castle, trying to figure out how he could somehow get across the battlefield without having to fight any pirates and manage to untie his imperial dragon—

Suddenly, a red lightning bolt struck the center of the battlefield and started a blazing fire (that was somehow unaffected by the rain). This blazing fire was the distraction Aisu desperately needed. Skydancer said a quick prayer to the Windsinger before he flew into the darkness of the storm clouds.
...

“Take that, you ********!” Aisu heard a female shout as he just above sea level towards the massive pirate ships. Shortly after the Aisu heard the shout, he saw pirate fall overboard and crash into the sea.

With a pounding heart, the skydancer flew high enough so he could see what was happening on deck.

Aisu couldn’t believe what he saw. The stunning imperial dragon was no longer tied up, with the exception of a few ropes hanging from her wrists and tangled in her shredded wings. Her chest was heaving as she stood on top of the bodies of many pirates that Aisu highly hoped were merely unconscious (but he highly doubted). Blood drizzled from the her wrecked wings and spilled onto the pirates beneath her paws.

The imperial dragon’s white eyes flicked up to met Aisu.

“Do you want to fight me?” She growled.

Aisu shallowed hard. To be honest, he was a little scared of this imperial dragon now. “I—um...came to rescue you?”

The imperial dragon rolled her eyes. “You know, that would have been a lot more helpful a couple of hours ago.”
...

Mamurr. Mamurr.” Cheery reminded Aisu before the gooey creature opened his mouth wide.

Aisu smiled at his familiar and dropped a few insects into the creature’s open mouth. “Bon appetite, Cheery,” the skydancer said to the cheerful residue.

“I can’t believe you actually named that thing,” the imperial dragon, whom Aisu had attempted to save, said from her spot on one of the hospital beds.

Aisu turned his head to look at the imperial dragon. She was laying on her stomach while Maruna, one of the Aquafire Clan’s healers, worked apply a special medicine onto her wounds.

It still amazed Aisu that he and this beautiful, slightly terrifying imperial dragon (whose name was Valkyre apparently) were still alive. Shortly after he had made it to the pirate’s ship, the Aquafire Clan’s leader, Nira, had managed to kill Captain Mallowclaw. As soon as Captain Mallowclaw’s body hit the ground, the violent storm ceased and the rest of the Redstrike Pirates began to flee to their ship. Valkyre began to brace herself for a fight as the army of pirates began to flying towards there ship they standing on. If there was one thing Aisu had learned from bashing, it was the philosophy that fleeing was always better than failure. He knew that there was no chance he and Valkyre could last against the army of pirates. The skydancer tugged on Valkyre’s arm and quickly convinced her to jump into the water and swim to shore.

The two dragons swam for a couple of yards before members of the Aquafire Clan spotted them and rushed Valkyre to the healer’s tent. Aisu followed the native dragons all the way into their healer tent and made sure Valkyre was safe before he went to find Amora and assure her that he was alright. Aisu decided tell Amora the truth about what had happened when he’d made his daring attempt to rescue Valkyre. After hearing about very thing Aisu had done, Amora chose to give the young skydancer a place to stay in her den for the meantime. Each day Aisu went to check on Valkyre and make sure she was doing alright.

Today was no exception.

“Cheery is like family to me,” Aisu insisted, “I can’t simply address a family member as ‘hey you’.”

Valkyre rolled her crystal white eyes and turned her head to Maruna.

“Sooo when will I be able to fly, Doc?” She asked.

Maruna bit her lip and continued to stare at Valkyre’s battered wings.

“Are we talking a month? Three weeks? A few days?” The imperial guessed.

Maruna started to shake her head. “I’m afraid there’s only so much I am capable of fixing—and your wings were so badly broken when you came to me—you might be able to jump a little higher than a snapper, but I don’t think you will ever be able to fly again.”

Silence filled the tent once the healer had finished speaking.

The imperial didn’t cry or shout or demand for a different answer.

She just nodded and said, “Well, that explains the sympathetic looks I got from the other healers.”
...

Valkyre was especially grouchy in the days that followed, but Aisu didn’t mind. He knew the imperial was hurting on the inside and could feel the sadness behind her scowl with his emotion-sensing antennae.

All Aisu wanted to was to get Valkyre to smile, but as the days passed the goal seemed almost impossible...or at least that was how Aisu felt until that one miraculous afternoon such a feat was possible. Maruna had told Valkyre that she could now leave the healer’s tent.

Aisu had dragged convinced Valkyre to explore the Aquafire Clan with him. Aisu began talking to Valkyre about his hope and dreams. The skydancer asked Valkyre if she had any hopes and dreams of her own and that was when the imperial broke.

She demanded that Aisu tell her why he bothered to waste time with a wretch like her and then, began to sob. Aisu had never seen Valkyre cry before and his heart broke once he saw the first tear drip from her cheek. The skydancer quickly threw his arms around Valkyre’s neck and began to stroke her mane.

He couldn’t believe that such a beautiful dragon had such a low opinion of herself.

“Valkyre, I like you. Don’t you see? I think you are the smartest and the most beautiful dragon I have ever met and there isn’t any other place I would rather be,” Aisu whispered into Valkyre’s ear.
...

In the many weeks that followed, Aisu and Valkyre grew very close. They walked along the shoreline together and helped care for the Aquafire Clan’s massive familiar collection. Aisu finally got to see Valkyre smile for the first time with she held one of the new wolf puppies that had recently been added to the Aquafire Clan’s hoard.

Eventually, Aisu got so close to the imperial dragon that she laid three eggs the next day. Aisu knew that probably wasn’t the smartest move his part, but he was too overjoyed by the idea of becoming father to care. Aisu also knew he loved Valkyre and he wanted to start a family with her.

Although, the skydancer wasn’t really sure if Valkyre felt the same... Aisu had chosen to stay in the Aquafire Clan to spend the rest of his life with Valkyre. Although, the imperial dragon couldn’t actually leave the Aquafire Clan, not when her wings were so badly beat up, like Aisu had...

That bothered the skydancer.

If you love something, set it free and if it comes back, it is yours to keep, but if it doesn’t, it wasn’t meant too be,” his mother used to tell him when he was a hatchling.

How could he know if Valkyre and him were meant to be when the imperial was trapped on this island with him?

As the hatch date of their eggs drew closer, Aisu decided that he needed to ask Valkyre a very important question. He needed to know, even the answer could very well destroy him. The two planned to meet up at the shoreline just before sunset.
...

“So, what’s the big surprise?” Valkyre asked as strolled towards the skydancer. Aisu’s heart began to hammer in his ears.

“Well, my one surprise kind of morphed into three surprises,” Aisu admitted as he glanced down at his talons. His palms helpfully began to sweat. He prayed to the Windsinger that he sounded at least somewhat calm to Valkyre.

Valkyre made an exaggerated moaning sound and muttered, “Urgh. Then, this will probably take forrreeevvveeerrrr.”

Aisu falsely grinned at the imperial dragon and cooed, “Oh, I think the time this takes will be worth it.” Oh gods, he felt like he was going to vomit. She just looked soooo beautiful in the setting sun’s amber light.

“It better be.” The imperial dragon replied with a devious grin.

Once Aisu lips began to move he simply couldn’t stop. He showed Valkyre his first surprise: a wolf pup named Howler that he had bought from the Aquafire Clan for her. It was the very same wolf that had made Valkyre smile for the first time, after her wings had been destroyed. The next surprise was a little harder to give. A few days ago, Aisu had found two fans decorated with an elaborate painting of crashing waves and purchased them for Valkyre.
17232.png

“You’ll be able to fly with them.” Aisu forced himself to explain as worry shallowed him whole.

Aisu helped strap the fans onto Valkyre’s wings and lost count of how many times He heard Valkyre say thank you. She sounded so happy...

This is the right thing to do, Aisu assured himself.

He shallowed hard. There was one more surprise left.

Aisu tightened the last rope around the imperial’s wing and softly said, “There’s one more gift I have for you, but you don’t have to except this one.”

Aisu pulled a small black box out of his satchel and popped it open.
10376.png

“Valkyre, will you marry me?” Aisu asked, his heart pounding even harder.

The imperial’s jaw went slack as she stared at that ring.

Aisu held his breath as he waited for a response...

Valkyre eyes began to water. Aisu could feel the despair building up inside of imperial dragon.

“Aisu, I—“ She shook her head as tears began to slip down her cheeks. Without saying another word, Valkyre sprinted off the opposite direction.

Aisu just stood there, dumbfounded and utterly heartbroken. She didn’t love him back, not in the Aisu loved her. It was crystal clear now.
...

Valkyre had left the Aquafire Clan shortly after Aisu had proposed. Aisu wanted to search for Valkyre, but their three eggs hadn’t hatched yet and he couldn’t just leave them. Amora and some of the other members of the Aquafire Clan sent out search parties for the imperial dragon with no luck. Eventually, Aisu told the island natives to stop looking for the imperial dragon because he was certain that she wouldn’t want to return to the Aquafire Clan.

Although, Aisu never blamed Valkyre for running away. Whenever someone asked him about why she had chosen to leave, the skydancer always claimed that he had chased her away with his rudeness and hit her a couple of times. Later on, the skydancer told his and Valkyre’s children the very same lie and because of this, Aisu’s children resented him.

As soon as Aisu’s children, whom he named Aserva, Lionel and Aniya, were old enough, they left the Aquafire Clan and their father behind. Once Aisu’s children were gone, Aisu had no reason to stay in the Aquafire Clan. The island held nothing, but bittersweet memories and regret to him.

Before the sun had rose, the skydancer took the skies once more with a few meager belongings, his familiar, an unfinished drawing of him and Valkyre, and the ring he had intended to give to her. The skydancer wasn’t sure why he had brought the last two items with him. Perhaps a small part of him wanted to search for Valkyre. Maybe an even smaller part of him wanted to find another dragon who would accept his ring and return his love.

Regardless of the reasoning behind the items, the skydancer still spread his wings over the Sea of a Thousand Currents with a heavy heart.

Warmsprings Clan (Peachyminn)

A long time has passed after Aisu's departure from the Aquafire clan. Led only by his instinct, he was led south, to the freezing cold. Eventually, he stumbled upon an enormous cave entrance, at the top of a mountain. Going deeper into it, the Skydancer, getting chills from the mixture of excitement and fear, crawled through everlasting tunnels, which got smaller with each step he took.

After what seemed like many minutes or maybe even a few hours, the deathly silence of the underground was broken. A small, distant hum could be heard, rising and falling in tone. It was smooth, as if whatever or whoever produced the sound was intending to sing.

Aisu was a mess of sentiments. Discomfort from the size of the hole, fear from the strange but soothing noise, much worse than the giddy feeling from before he had entered. That didn't last long, as when he focused on it, he noticed the noise probably wasn't produced by some sort of spirit or monster, but by a Coatl.

Feeling much better, the dragon called out:

- Hello? Who are you?...

The song ceased. After this, a series of vibrations rang through the clear, icy walls. It was a sound he knew well: A Coatl trying to speak standard Draconic. The distorted sound, wildly changing in pitch, was a pain to understand for most dragons. Fortunately, Aisu, being a considerably experienced traveler, had been among many of them before, and had learned to understand their peculiar "accent".

- I... Guess I could ask the same. I'm Rivalen. We have few visitors. Would you mind... If I ask about what you're doing here?

The voice was coming closer every second. The ice, thick but partially transparent, showed the singer. Judging from the relaxed posture, the feathered dragon was a male. A dark purple one, with markings shining bright gold. Finally, Rivalen appeared fully. To say it simply, he was stunning. Any dragon could easily fall in love with him.

The dragons, amid curious talking, passed through the tunnels, as well as time passed quickly. Finally, they reached larger caverns, where they met all sorts of dragons, of all sizes, colors, and demeanours. They shared stories for hours, which were filled with laughing and crying. Aisu stayed there overnight, and left as soon as the sun rose.

Despite not having stayed there much, the Skydancer parted ways with Warmsprings renewed and ready for another travel.
