_____At first glance, Mira seems like a happy-go-lucky dragon. She's carefree, silly and sociable. She's friendly with everyone in the clan, even with timid August. She enjoys taking flights with Aster. Chattering away with Rath, or helping Jade mix her potions. She hangs around Anemone(who's her distant cousin), sometimes quite literally. Most would think she's simple and way too optimistic. They're wrong. Mira is exceedingly clever and smart. She loves tinkering with things, and likes figuring out what makes things tick. But she also wants to be a mage. It's one of her goals in life, to be a powerful mage. And she's darn good at it. You could say she's a prodigy. Considering her runic marks, it makes sense that she'd have such a strong connection with magic. She commits herself to her studies, and she still has time to help out and spend time with others in her clan. ...It's a wonder the pressure of all that responsibility hasn't made her crack. |

(wip) Mira's beginning was....odd. Her parents were members of a Shadow clan deep in the Foxfire Bramble. This clan was known as the Noctrist Enclave. Her parents and a few other members once left to see the world. Only one of that party ever came back: Anemone. The guardian dragon came bearing Mira's egg, which after leaving in the care of the clan, immediately disappeared, presumably on her Search. And so, the egg was watched over and hatched in the darkest of places, under a lunar eclipse, in a sudden, wicked show of shadow magic. Mira was born. The clan immediately realized her extraordinary gift for magic. Her runic markings and odd eyes were dead giveaways. They focused all of themselves on taking care of the young skydancer, giving her everything she ever wanted or needed, trying to steer her on the path to being a mage. They were strangely delighted with her innate aggression. Mira never really thought much of it. Learning about all different kinds of magic was a treat! She enjoyed all the attention, and the gifts. She never thought about the more veiled, greedy looks the members of the enclave gave her. The more sinister motives they may have had for her. The unending wheedling and pushing of her to go over more books, learn more precarious spells, even as she stole hours away to pursue her passion of tinkering. Luckily, it seemed most of the nefarious attempts to twist her into something she wasn't backfired. The unending gifts and indulgent of her wants seemed to make her empathetic to others wants and generous, instead of making her spoiled and always wanting her way. The unending feigned delight in her inherent aggression turned her to using that hostility to be viciously kind to others. Sometime into her teen years, the enclave's strange fascination in Mira finally began to become apparent to her. It made her feel somewhat confined, and put on a high pedestal, like she had to be perfect. And even then, it wasn't enough. She was now aware of the clan's dissatisfaction in her. She couldn't help that some of their practices made a part of her disgusted, while making some inner part of her thrilled and giddy for more. The conflicting parts of her, that she was beginning to realize weren't normal, were causing her distress. She pushed down that distress of course. Then one night, Anemone was back, with an obscuring goblin in tow. The guardian immediately went to Mira, offering her to come with her when she left again in the next week.
"You...you want me to what?"
"Yes, come with me. Wouldn't it be nice, to go out into the world? Aren't you feeling confined here?" Anemone asked, smiling softly. Mira did want to go. She wanted to leave this place, see other clans. "I'm...I'm sorry, I don't think I can. The Elders--" "I'll talk to them myself. But then again, who cares what they think? It's your decision, after all," the great guardian interrupted, turning away. The Council of the Noctrist Enclave was not pleased with the guardian's request. Even though she had some right to the skydancer, being Mira's only remaining relative, they were reluctant to allow Mira to leave. For days the council discussed this decision. But Mira had never wanted anything so much in her life. When it seemed a decision wouldn't be made before the week ended, she packed some things, her mechanic tools, magic books, her familiar, and left with Anemone in the dead of night. They traveled for over a year. They visited the Observatory in the Arcane realm for a few months, studying magic and the mysteries of space. They took a trip to the Hewn City. Anemone was strangely excited for this trip, studying forgotten knowledge in the ruined libraries while Mira explored the devastated city. They eventually headed to the Shifting Expanse, to locate several dragons Anemone had once met in her journey years before. They found them in a small, close-knit clan, the Skyfire Sanctuary. While Anemone caught up and discussed matters Mira didn't care about, she did what she did best: explore, and make friends with the populace. Soon, she was approached by a fellow skydancer mage, named Andromeda. The seasoned mage was enthusiastic about Mira, saying she wished to train her in magic alongside her other apprentice, Vespa. Mira was a little cautious at first, but it was evident that the older skydancer had no ill will, and was mainly curious. She was fast to accept, and Anemone was very okay with her decision to stay. In fact, she too accepted a position in the clan, that of the Shadow representative. So, the two shadow dragons, who once came from the deepest depths of the Tangled Wood, of strange, indeterminate backgrounds, came to be a part of the Skyfire Sanctuary. beware for she is shade-touched |
