Biography

0bsfWDw.png

She didn't remember much from the trip. She remembered the cold, and the wind, and her brother trying so hard to make sure she stayed warm. In her mind, Grapefruit wasn't sure she was ever going to be warm again. How long had it been since they'd left the Wood? Hadn't there been anywhere else they could have gone?

But Peaches was older, and he knew better than a hatchling like her. She trusted him, so she followed.

When they had finally stopped, she curled up as tight as she could, and wasn't sure she'd ever be able to stretch again. Peaches was trembling above her, his wings wrapped around them both, protecting her as much as he could. For as cold as she was, she couldn't imagine how he must feel. Was it easier to stay warm if you were bigger, or would it be harder because there was more to keep warm?

It felt like she was drifting to sleep, when the voice seemed to come from nowhere, and the wind…did it calm, just a little? There was a figure, another dragon, but her eyes wouldn't focus on it to see. But she was moving then, set on the back of the distant shadow, and for the first time in such a long time, it almost felt like warmth.
Is this how I meet the gods? She knew of others who had gone off to fight for the deities, but she never thought she'd find one like this. Would the Shadowbinder still want a little hatchling frozen to the core? She'd try as hard as she could…but what if Peaches didn't come with? No, that wouldn't do.

Wave in, wave out, she must have dozed off to sleep with the rocking of the other dragon's gait. She could still see Peaches nearby, his colors like hers standing out against the snow. Everything would be okay, then. As long as he was still here, everything would be okay.

When she finally came back around and opened her eyes, she had a blanket draped over her, as she rested next to a fire. She could feel her feet again! And her wings! At the edge of the cave, Peaches smiled at her.

Though most siblings stayed friends throughout being hatchlings and into adulthood, to those who knew Grapefruit and Peaches well, they were inseparable, and their fates were forever entwined. Together they had faced being lost in the Tangled Wood and had joined their forever clan together. Nowadays, they spend their time working at a flower shop that they co-created, and with Abelone, they ensure that their clan has a thriving source of flowers for loved ones, from romantic to platonic relationships.

Where are we? she asked.

Home, he'd replied.

And she trusted him.
