One of the youngest sets of twins among the family of the Executioner and the Deathcaller, Cassiel and his brother Orestes were born deep within the Foxfire Bramble. Of all the siblings, the young twins are the closest; even moreso than Maynard and Iachoku once were.

Cassiel was born with exceptional magical prowess, his nose in tomes as soon as he could comprehend them. He often snuck into coven gatherings as a hatchling and observed the witches' work closely. It wasn't long before he was found out; however, instead of being reprimanded, his older sister and coven leader, Alkali, thought it best to allow him into the coven and teach him properly. They did need a new twelfth member, after all, with their mother formally stepping down from the coven to accept a position on the counsel.

With the aid of the coven, Cassiel found his specialty in the form of sigils and runic magic; and soon he was scrawling runes on everything, testing the effects; crafting sigils for his own specific purposes. In their adolescence, Cassiel magically "tattooed" runes into his brother's scales, imbuing them with a considerable portion of his own magic, allowing Orestes to harness it as his own. He continues the practice of tattooing magical runes into the hides of his clanmates, however, for everyone else he gives smaller spells; for example, runes for strength and protection for the warriors.

In his personal life, Cassiel has a charming and magnetic personality, ever the romantic, much like his mother. He is, however, significantly more... forward than his mother. Nevertheless, he is well liked among the clan, even the only member of the Coven that Arwynne doesn't think is a snob (and the two are actually quite close friends).

Among the "babies" of the family, Cassiel and Orestes are possibly Peyton's "favorites" -- or at least, she babies the young twins the most.
