Nautilus is the one who expands the clan lair, digging deep into the trench. What was once a small cave originally carved by the Founders is now more of a genuine lair thanks to his digging, creating a place for the clan to call home. He is solely responsible for all of the passageways and chambers that now make up the lair. Nobody asked him to do this- he just started digging one day, burrowing into rock and stone with his claws and spines, which are strangely enlarged for a Ridgeback. Nonetheless, the Overseer is thankful for his contribution to the clan. Nautilus has made sure that there will always be room for more denizens to come, whether that was his intention to do so or not.
There are still many tunnels that lead nowhere, either unfinished work or simply his own curiosity to unearth Tidelord knows what, though he admits that he's not looking for anything in particular. Nautilus is a quiet fellow often ostracized by his fellow denizens due to his penchant to lurk in his tunnels. Truthfully, he is terrified of the surface, and finds solace in the underground.
It is strange that he found companionship in Sepiida, a Guardian that could be described as Nautilus' complete opposite. The two boast a strong partnership, even if they often don't spend any time together.

Living up to how we feel about ourselves:
one foot in the grave; one foot in our mouths.
You'll know who we are by the mark on our sleeve
in the shape of a heart that could never beat.
