'Since he was young, Filigree had Known he was to be a part of something bigger than himself. The hatchling had felt it in his bones, his scales, to the tips of his wings and sharp edge of each claw, he had a Destiny to fulfill. With each day that passed, the pull grew stronger and stronger. He lost himself to it, eventually giving in and searching relentlessly for the one thing no amount of Gold or Gems could buy, the thing that would satisfy him and maybe, just maybe, stop the restless feeling in his feathers. Filigree appears to be endlessly optimistic to some dragons, but he is actually just reassured the steps he is taking will lead him wherever he needs to go, and that everything he does is somehow blessed and guided by some invisible presence. Sometimes, you will find him peering at the sky, contemplating what exactly he was destined for. He has yet to find an answer, However hard he stares at the clouds and the vast expanse of the heavens, but he knows that whatever his cause is, his future will be grand and brilliant as the sun and stars combined. He is willing to take every Opportunity in stride, to try everything that comes his way, because he knows that one day soon he will know the joy of being in something bigger than mere royalty or wealth because he was born with a mission, a fate, a destiny. Some compare him to a Guardian, so set on this one unnameable thing that he would be devastated if he were to be unable to find it, or worse if it didn't exist at all. They can not imagine why a dragon would set off from a position of such enduring grandeur for a cause yet to be discovered. 'Why would anyone do something like that, lose themselves in something they can't even put a word to?' they say, astounded at his loyalty to this mysterious Journey. He answers, as he always will, 'I have a word for this thing I am so willing to surrender too, to grant myself wholly too, to allow it to consume my thoughts and control my actions. The words are 'Destiny', 'Fate', and 'Mission'. So, he will continue and endure, until he finds his destiny to which he is so devoted and serves it/them as well as he possibly can. So he would travel, and through almost every land he walked. Felt every stone, mossy earth, and felled tree under-claw. Seen dragons from every flight of all colors and breeds. So devoted was he, he walked through the shifting expanse untouched, and he was convinced this was proof of his destiny. So sure-footed with each step, he walked through the plague-lands with confidence in his gait and remained unharmed. Every dragon who saw him walk past knew who he was far before he arrived because word travels fast when you are devoted enough to a cause for the gods themselves to notice. Some say he still searches, but when they speak of him they do not do so as if he were lost, because in his wanderings he has learned of devotion, of trusting your destiny, and he sings the same song no matter how long he must walk his life's path, remaining untouched by time, so strong was his devotion. Hatchlings who see him bound up to him, smiling and giggling in that youthful manner, and he will speak with them about his destiny as if not a day had passed since he had first set out to find it.' |
