Biography

In the dark depths of the ocean, you are lost. Only the faintest bit of sunlight makes it down this far, and your eyes are not trained to pick up on it. All is dark in the vast scar splitting through the seafloor. There's movement. A faint green glow appears from behind what was probably a rock in the murky water to your left. It's there you see it, the skeletal green markings of a fae floating silently in the murk. It's looking at you with eyes you cannot see save for the skull-shape's faint implication of their presence. It's small, as fae are. It cannot be more than a few feet away from you. You lurch forward to reach out. But your claws catch nothing but water. It's still there, but farther than you realized.

You call out the the small figure. Perhaps you are both lost. You beg it to come closer.

It listens.

The skeletal wings and fins furl and swim in your direction. You feel the water stir around you more than it should have. Unsettled, you wait for it to get to you, not trusting your depth perception in these waters. It approaches, the form getting bigger... bigger... too big now to be any normal fae. But irregularities can happen; perhaps they were once a larger breed? No. It should have gotten to you by now but all you can see it is growing, growing in size. What was once a small roundish glow of a skull now reveals the glowing shapes of jagged, carnivorous teeth. It's just markings, you tell yourself, just a pattern. The water around you is now an uneasy current as the head of the creature, you hesitate to call it a dragon, now feels as big as your whole body. The eerie green glow only barely illuminates your surroundings to be a vast expanse of nothing for as far as the eye can see. What had it been hiding behind? Just how far had it been?

You turn to try and escape but it must be rather close now as you hear a voice like scale scraping on stone reverberate in the deep of your chest and begin the slow crescendo of a horrific scream that almost steals your breath from you.

You want to run away. You can't feel your thoughts through the noise. The green glow of the creature surrounds you now, broken, mismatched teeth close around your field of vision before they are relieved by the pitch black and dead silence of nothingness.

---

In a small cot below decks of your ship, you sit up sweating. You've had this dream once before. Your eyes snap to the small window to your chambers just in time to catch the faint tail end of a small green glow dip down into the waters, out of sight.

You need to change course.
