"We cannot choose what we are given. But we can choose what to do with it." Warm-Hearted | Introverted | Insecure |

Jormund rested his head on his arms, staring at the ground in front of him. Three cards lay on the stony ground, their images conveying a clear message to him. Jormund sighed lowly. The lair they were in currently—the Rose Spar as they called themselves—was a kind one. To give two strangers food, protection, and a place to sleep without hesitation was not something many lairs would do. But something about this clan had been nagging him ever since he got here. It was like the memory of a thought one had had, without remembering what it had been about. It had budged him to lay out the cards. Arthus walked up to him, glimpsing over his shoulder. A crooked smile spread on the Corven’s face. “Looks like we’ll stay, eh?”
Personality
|
Jormund is a kind and warm-hearted dragon. He tries to help the people around him if he can, but his upbringing also taught him to look out for his own well-being. He is an introvert but at the same time does not enjoy solitude. He has few close friends in the lair, but will not decline a chat or a game of cards with dragons outside of his close circle. He is very polite and would never ask to be left alone, even if he's exhausted from social contact. Similarly, he'll avoid conflicts as often as possible as they stress him out. His ability puts a great weight on his shoulders. He wants to use it to do good, but also fears that others will not take him seriously or be angered by his visions. Also, he knows that his clear-voyance, where his ice blue eyes turn pitch black, is rare and unpredictable. While telling the fortune from cards and other signals, seeing the future clearly is out of his control. He is currently trying to find a way to enforce such a vision in order to help his clan mates. Insecurities and fear make him struggle and he has yet to learn that he can always rely on his friends. |
Background
Jormund was born and raised in the Southern Icefield in his mother's clan. His father he never met. It was a rather small clan, led by his uncle and his wife, who were rather strict and disciplined to ensure the clan member's survival in the harsh climate. Jormund was the only hatchling his age, his cousins being much older or younger than him. However, he didn't mind and instead enjoyed the company of the adults. There was something about him though that set him apart from the rest of his clan. Ever since he was a child, Jormund just knew some things. He knew whether there would be a blizzard, or how much prey the hunters would bring. His mother realized something was different about her son and while she was proud, she feared that the rest of her clan would look at him in suspicion. She told him to keep his abilities a secret and that he did until one fateful incident. It was when Jormund was still a young adolescent that he had his first vision. While before, he had simply known the outcome of situations, this time he saw the events happening right before his eyes. He saw one of his uncles, a hunter, crashing through thin ice and drowning in the freezing sea. Despite his mother's warnings, Jormund decided to tell his uncle and aunt about his vision, hoping to protect him. But his uncle merely scolded him for his "childish fears", telling him he should not let himself be scared by a nightmare. The uncle set out for hunt… and never returned. Having overheard the talk between her mate and Jormund, his wife blamed Jormund for cursing her mate as revenge for the humiliation. Jormund declined, but the clan leader could not accept the fear and suspicion that arose within the clan. Jormund, still half a child, was exiled into the ice cold wilderness, left to die. But his mother would not let go of her only child that easily. She, too, left the clan. Together, they made their way to the warmer mainland. But while the plains were friendlier climate wise, they were still treacherous. Jormund's mother died protecting him from an attack without any vision to warn him. Griefing, Jormund continued his way alone. On his travels, he met a member of the corven beastclan, Arthus by name. The witty trickster earned his money on fairs and markets, telling the fortune from cards and claw reading. Jormund watched him for hours, not requesting a single reading. When Arthus approached him, Jormund asked the croven whether he could read his fortune instead. Arthus agreed, amused by Jormund's request. But when Jormund's reading became true in most parts, Arthus found Jormund once more and offered to journey with him. Jormund agreed, happy to finally not be alone anymore. Arthus taught him how to read from stars, wind, palms, cards, and all the other tricks. They became friends, travelling from one market to the other. When they arrived at Focal Point, Jormund had his first clear vision ever since his uncle died. He saw a group of dragons, led by a single Coatl, attacking both him and Arthus. Again, he shared his vision, but this time, he was taken serious. Him and Arthus managed to avoid Claudius and his followers, instead coming across Shirogane, who invited them to come with him. It was nothing more than a gut feeling and a few cards that made Jormund stay with the Rose Spar in the end, a feeling about big things ahead. And again, Arthus trusted his judgement and stayed by his side. |
Relationships
Best Friend Arthus invisibleinvisible |
Arthus is Jormund’s closest friend. He trusts the snarky and clever Corven with all his secrets and insecurities and would always do his very best to help him out. Arthus is both his friend and teacher, and most of his fortune reading skills Jormund learned from him. Whenever Jormund feels overwhelmed or insecure, Arthus is there to cheer him on or to knock some self-confidence into him. They have each other’s backs, always. |
Alaysa approached Jormund shortly after his arrival at the lair. She was curious about him, but also kind and understanding. Jormund enjoys spending time with her as she quickly grasps when he is feeling uneasy or overwhelmed and doesn’t hesitate to take a step back. He is at ease with her most of the time and even if he’s not, he knows she’ll understand. |
