Shin was born in the clan of Dust Bleak located in a remote region of the Shifting Expanse. The clan was home to many a drifter, like that of her father Eissu. She took after him in much the same way, her soul full of wanderlust and yearning for new sights. Unlike her father however, she had the same eye for detail and subtly as her poet mother Skaldi. Shin would often accompany her into the desert while she observed the landscape for her writing, although she was more interested in the rocks and fossils they'd find along the way.

That fascination with fossils blossomed into a passion for paleontology. She spent her free time as a youngling drawing and writing about the fossils she'd find in the desert with her mother, and she grew into a sharp minded scientist. Eventually she left Dust Bleak to pursue her studies and continue her research throughout Sornieth.
