Roen of the Wastes Wordmage | Wanderer | Wastrel | Wraith His name burns in his ears, a searing, unfamiliar brand on the winds of this desolate place. It has been so long since someone else called his name... so long has he been muddling through the identities of others that he could have sworn he was no longer just Roen, Siwanson of the wastes but something else entirely. A thousand names all bound together, tightly around his psyche like armor, his charges and thralls protecting him as he once protected them, worlds away. In a moment though, all of this has burned away, so much arcane dust on the wind, leaving behind the stale scent of bottled static. He is suddenly and unpleasantly nothing but Roen. A small purple speck gazes back at him when he looks about in surprise, coolly examining his arcane signature as though it is but a simple tome to be flipped through whenever the fancy strikes. He growls at her, unmoored without the constant nagging of oaths made and bonds forged, but she does not waver. “You are lost, wordsmith. Buried beneath the weight of all of those you have sworn to protect. Come with me. Where I come from the winds are ever-sweet, and you will find rest.” It sounds.... good. When was the last time he truly got to rest? He cannot recall. Strange. In the time between blinks he has found himself following the tiny pink soceress, chasing a trickle of breeze towards it’s source. Perhaps.... perhaps it is time to change course once more. Perhaps it is time to be Roen once again.

Roen Soulmantle hears the whispers of the long dead. Every place, every scrap of dust or shred of rotted cloth carries the impressions of those long-past, and Roen knows, somehow, that he must carry them all. It is only by his good fortune and perhaps the machinations of the gods that Stila found him as a child, nearly dead from the exhaustion of ferrying hundreds of souls as he moved across the wastelands in a daze. |
