Ripples danced on the surface as fish flittered about, creating a kaleidoscope of light on the sandy bottom of the shore. Axel admired the view, and with a deep breath in, he forced himself to have resolve.
He dipped a claw tentatively into the water, but its cool silkiness forced him to recoil. He swore colourfully, and flopped down onto the sand in frustration.
How ironic it was, that he carried an essence of the very ocean he feared right in his belly? He couldn't remember when he first feared the rumble of the waves, the fast incoming tide, the lick of water at his feet.
He stood up from the warm sand, and clenched his teeth. No, he would try again. He could do it. He could do it.
