Dragon Log

An ambitious Spiral who loves to play with (and create) Runestones, and magical foci--and has a habit of exploding things when his experiments go wrong. His successes, however, are so spectacular that the Clan generally forgives him the consequences of his failures--most of the time.

He came to the Clan when he heard of a female Spiral who manipulated energy around her lair. He was not in time to the be the father of her first clutch, but is more than willing to wait for her--especially since she seems interested in him…or is it his runes she likes?

7-19-14: Rune has entered the Thundercrack Carnivale Science Faire! He has hope of winning, too...

Spellweaver darted towards the back of the cave, where Runemaster was tinkering with that strange device of his again. He was fitting Arcane and Lightning Runestones all over it, making finite adjustments to each one. As Spellweaver approached, he cocked his head, then sighed and shifted one of the stones further away from another one. He whipped his tail out, and picked up another stone, this one an Ice stone. The male Spiral placed the new stone next to an Earth stone already in place, completing a Circle that wrapped around the whole device. Spellweaver giggled, and wrapped her own, equally long, tail around her mate’s head.

“Wahtcha doing, Rune?”

He smiled. “Spell, just the girl I wanted to see! What do you think of my Shade Detector?”

“Shade Detector?”

“Yes, it’s an entry for the Thundercrack Science Festival. It will detect when the Shade comes close, and give advance warning.”

“How does it work?”

Runemaster shifted two stones so that they were perfectly aligned, and patted the glowing cylinder. “It’s made out of meteor matter and Runestones, so that it has both a connection to space and our world. I put one Runestone for each Flight in a Circle around the middle, with Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind at the Cardinal points, since they are the oldest dragons, and thus have the oldest magics. Each of these eleven stones is linked to it’s land, and will glow bright red if the Shade comes near that area.”

Spellweaver unwound her tail, and darted towards the Shade Detector. The cylinder was about 100 feet tall, and had a 20 foot radius. It almost reached the top of the cave. The eleven Flight Runestones stood out among all the other Arcane and Lightning stones scattered around it. Spellweaver noticed that there was a row of interspersed Arcane and Lightning stones both above and below the row of Flight stones, with each Arcane stone followed by a Lightning stone all around the cylinder. The other Lightning and Arcane stones were similarly staggered, in what she now saw was a geometric pattern. There were also strange wires linking the stones together.

“What are those?” The female Spiral flicked her tail at the wires.

“That’s how it will be powered, Spell. I did a trade with a Lightning Dragon for these. Shock assured me they are genuine copper and steel, whatever that is…but anyway, he said that they would conduct the energies to the different stones. Each stone has it’s own energy, of course, and I have to be careful how I balance them, but that’s what these are for.” He gestured with his small claw at two stones. Spellweaver looked closer, and realized that they weren’t stones at all. They were tiny box-like devices, each one glowing a soft gold. “These are Transformer Boxes. They take the Flight energy from the stones, and convert it to either Lightning or Arcane, whichever is needed for that function.”

“Function?”

“Yes, Spell. The Shade detector detects the Shade’s magic, and that needs Arcane energy, in order to sense the magic. But in order for it to run at all, it needs Lightning energy, so it can stay “on.” So the Arcane stones power the detection function, and the Lightning stones power the “on” function, and the Transformer Boxes make sure that the right energy goes to the right place.” Runemaster launched himself into the air, flying around his device, and checked it from all sides. “Almost done…all it needs is the final two conductors.”

Spellweaver giggled. “Are you going to ask one of the music dragons to help you?”

Runemaster smiled fondly at his mate. She was actually much brighter then she let on, he knew, she just enjoyed teasing people. “No. Conductors are how the energy is passed into the device from outside. The Runestones can’t do everything. Here, help me lift this spiral.” He flew down towards the opposite side of the cylinder, where a tall, thin (relative to the device) spiral lay waiting. “It fits on the top of the device,” he explained as he and Spellweaver wrapped their tails around it and lifted, “and attracts Lightning to it. Shock called it a “lightning rod.” The Lightning energy will go to the spiral, and then down it through the wires to the rest of the device. And this,” he added, gesturing with a claw towards a smaller, box-like device also laying on the floor, “is an Arcane conductor. It goes on the bottom of the Shade Detector, and absorbs Arcane energy the same way the spiral absorbs Lightning.”

The spiral was about 10 feet high, starting at 2 feet at it’s diameter and tapering to a point. The box was about ten feet square. Spellweaver happily helped her mate put both in place.

“There!” Runemaster flew back to get a better look at his creation. “Now all I have to do is get Merlin and Nightsedge to help me move this outside, and I can tell Shock its ready to be entered!”

Spellweaver smiled in joy. “Oh, good! There’s a new piece of Arcane energy I’d like you to help
me with…it seems to be trying to curl my tail…”

Runemaster laughed, and whipped around after this mate. “Well, let’s take a look at it, shall we? Shock won’t be here until morning….Hey, Merlin! It’s ready to be moved!”

The large purple Imperial resting nearby lifted his head, and yawned. “Excellent. I shall fetch Nightsedge at once. Good luck with your competition, Rune.”

Runemaster grinned, waving his tail in acknowledgement as he flew by….

7-30-14: Runemaster did not win the contest, unfortunately. He did, however, have a lot of fun, and Spellweaver is even more interested in him than she was before....

9-23-14: Oh dear...during the Starfall Celebration this year, Runemaster tried to do a new experiment, and it went badly awry...at least he was able to enter the Starfall Celebration Costume Contest as a result....

Poor Rune... he has a wonderful imagination, and a great mind, but he isn't that good on the practical things like dressing properly... or using proper precautions when he experiments. His latest attempt to make a special gift for the Arcanist went pretty badly awry--but not in the usual way. Instead of blowing up or melting, it warped the energies around him, changing the colors of his skin, and shifting his nice brown scarf to a rather awful bright blue that clashes horribly with his current skin color and his wings. As if this wasn't bad enough, his golem isn't working properly anymore: it keeps sparking and beeping at the oddest times. His mate is not going to be pleased... that golem was their one-month anniversary gift.....

10-2-14: Rune and Spell have been dancing around each other for some time, but they may be trying for a hatchling soon... in the meantime, Runemaster's Warcat Protector has awakened! He is excited for his friend, though he will probably stay away from those claws. Is it just him, or has the cat become fiercer since waking up?

10-16-14: Trust Runemaster to find the more interesting familiars... now he has attracted an Everglade Lasher to his side of the caves. Perhaps it's the Lasher's migration patterns that fascinate him so much?

11-23-14: The relationship between Rune and Spell is blossoming--and so is the magical mayhem they cause together. Interestingly enough, however, when they are not fascinated by the same concept, each manages to balance the other out. As a result, the cave has not--yet--exploded--though they have come close....

Recently, as a reward for good behavior--they hadn't managed to blow anything up for an entire week, after all--Spellweaver and Runemaster were allowed to attend the Rockbreaker's Ceremony this year. This...might have been a mistake...

Runemaster moved swiftly through the stalls, making a beeline for the stall containing the brightly colored Imperial...and the fascinating lumps of rock in a pile beside him. The inventive Spiral had an affinity for odd magic and differing energies, and there was something very odd about those rocks...

As Rune arrived at the stall, he saw the sign, and smiled. Ah, of course! Hidden treasures! The rocks didn't feel like ordinary rocks because they weren't! He turned to point this out to his mate, only to realize that she was gone. Rune blinked, then shrugged. Spellweaver could not get into any trouble here that the Clan couldn't get her out of, and in the meantime, there was an experiment to conduct.

Runemaster cleared his throat, and gestured at the hammers. "May I?" He asked, moving his golem gently aside, "I just love hidden mysteries!"

Oh boy...hopefully what Rune finds won't be too explosive...

11-24-14: [(From Renessa47:
Sing's practiced eyes momentarily followed the bright female who darted away from her mate but quickly pointed his armored head over to the spiral who came to him and nodded politely. "Always, brother, take your best shot." His tail scooped another stone and clunked it onto the bench and he chuckled. "Hammer or magic, either way, but as they say - when in Dragonhome...")]

Runemaster took the hammer in his hand, ignoring his golem (which had begun to beep worriedly at the sight of such a powerful tool in the hands of an, er, over-excited experimenter) and weighed it in his hand. Good balance, excellent weight.... he studied the rock thoughtfully. He could feel the pulse of something that wasn't rock, right about... there!

Rune brought the hammer smashing down on his chosen spot on the rock, watching the resulting dust cloud with interest. It took some time to disperse, but when it did he saw...a rock with a crack in it. Rune blinked. That should have worked! Ah, well, maybe some more strength?

The golem began to edge slowly away as Rune brought the hammer down again... and again... at six smashes, there was a sudden sound of something cracking, and the rock finally split open...but by that time the golem was heading away, looking for Spellweaver. Rune's mate would be able to stop this madness... he hoped.

Runemaster grinned, completely oblivious to his defecting friend. So sensing the placement in the stone had not been enough, he mused. He would have to tell whoever tried next to use more force from the beginning... perhaps he could get Merlin to help out?

Ah well, that was for later. For now, he peered eagerly inside, looking for what the rock had contained....

[(From Renessa47:
Sing watched out of the corner of his eye, but on the sixth strike turned and started to say something until the rock finally flew open and... the sealing crystal lay dormant while the Runemaster stuck his nose to it in his eagerness. "Uh, you may wa-" The crystal lanced out a brilliant shaft of light and a chuffing fox-rat with a precariously perched fez on his head bounded out onto the Spiral's neck.
(Roll: ALL THE 100s!) )]

Well, it certainly exploded, but for once this seems to be a good thing...

Runemaster lifted his head slowly, a wide smile spreading across his face. The bright light and lancing magic hadn't bothered the experimenter at all..why should it, when his experiment had proved such a success? He carefully guided the Fawn Fox Rat to a more comfortable--for him--perch, and bowed to the Imperial running the stall.

"My thanks for your help! I knew I could sense something special in the sto--"

"RUNE!" An excited female Spiral--Runemaster's mate, Speallweaver--came zooming around a corner, waving several precious gems excitedly. She was followed by Rune's missing golem--which was beeping even more loudly than before--and her own friendly comet, which looked like he was trying to decide whether to be amused, alarmed, or relieved.... if, of course, living balls of energy could be said to have emotions.

"Rune, look what I got! I can add them to the hoard--oh are those the rocks to smash?" Spell shoved the gems somewhere--Rune couldn't see where--and moved closer to the stall, catching herself from banging into it at the last minute. "Tre said there was some really neat magic in these and you were trying to get it out--is that a Fox Rat? He's cute!"

Rune grinned, petting his new friend. "Yes, he is. And the rocks are right over there, if you want to try... sense for the magic, Spell, you can't go wrong--"

But Spellweaver wasn't listening. She had grabbed up a hammer, and started to swing it. Pausing at the last second, remembering the manners her Clan Mother had tried to teach her, she looked at the Imperial who ran the stall.

"May I?"

As the Imperial nodded, and the hammer came down, Runemaster slipped away. There were some other energy readings further on--and he knew that Spellweaver would find him when she was finished. She never minded his wanderings--after all, she was the same way.

Oh dear...it seems Spellweaver is growing quite excitable, and Runemaster has gone off by himself again. This cannot be good...

11-25-14: Rune is continuing to have fun at the Festival with his latest experiment....

Runemaster drifted by the stalls, following the pull of a strange energy reading. While his specialty was in Runes, his mate Spellweaver had taught him how to sense magic within the world around him, and he had gotten quite good at it., as his new friend now perched on his back/neck could attest. The pull became stronger, and he followed it to a stall in front of a large Arena, pulsing with energy.

Rune studied the stall for a moment, and then smiled. Ah, of course! A treasure hunt! He looked at his new Fox Rat, which was now chewing on his ear--and batting with his paw at the golem once again hovering nearby--and nodded. An experiment could not really be called successful until all variables had been explored. He had proved that he could find special magical energy from inside manmade stones. Now it was time to see if he could use his new talent to probe the earth itself.

Moving over to the bucket, he happily deposited the required amount of treasure, took some digging tools, and zoomed to D7 to commence his hunt....

Hopefully this part of the experiment will not be as explosive as the last...

[(From Serendipital:
Indiana watched as the Spiral dug. He seemed...a mixture of confident and focused, though she could easily be wrong. She never was good at reading people. Pulling the basket out of his hole, she peered inside. "That's two Jaspers," she said, handing them over. She honestly couldn't tell how he would react. "They're...very lovely stones.")]

Runemaster smiled warmly at the friendly Ridgeback. He reached out and took the stones, weighing them in his hands. "Lovely indeed! These are just the right size for my latest experiment... can I borrow that pick, again?"

Without waiting for an answer, the suddenly completely focused Spiral grabbed the pick, and began to carve an intricate rune into the larger piece of Jasper.... which almost instantly began to pulse with a weird purplish-red light....the golem hovering by his side let out a loud, distressed beep and darted wildly away....

Rune glanced up from his work, his smile even wider. "Perfect!" He exclaimed, shoving the pick back into Indiana's hand, "Just the right size, as I thought. Once I get these fine-tuned they will do for a wonderful focus...Tre! Get back here! I need you to carry these!" Runemaster darted after his rapidly disappearing golem, still waving the pulsing stones....

[(From Serendipital:
"Wha-" Indiana was cut off by the bright pulsing. She wanted to flee like the other dragon's golem, but if he was trying something like this right here...surely he must know what he's doing? She settled for trembling in place from the suddenness of it all. She waved him goodbye, still shell-shocked. Well...good for him, then.)}

Uh-oh...It looks like Rune has forgotten about sensing magical energy in favor of something else far more problematice...

11-26-14: Runemaster flew rapidly though the stalls, pursuing his fleeing golem, his Fox rat familiar still clinging to his neck. The excited--and miffed--Spiral was still waving the red jasper he had acquired from the digging arena, shouting after the distressed golem.

"Tre! I need you to carry these! Come back here you silly machine!"

Several dragons in question noted the oddly--and rapidly--pulsing colors of the jasper in question, glanced at the golem, and began to shake their heads. The general consensus was that the golem might have the right idea... and maybe they should join in the flight.

"[bTre![/b] This is ridiculous! If you don't come back here the energy is going to dissipate, and I'll lose the focus! Where are you--" Rune suddenly swerved, his attention caught by a stall he had never seen before. Was that water? And things floating in it?

Absently stuffing the now less-wildly pulsing stones into his vest, Runemaster sped closer to the stall in question. He watched for several minutes, before his usual grin returned to his face. That was right... Spell had told him about this...a bobbing game she had gotten some gems from.... Hmmm....

Rune moved closer still, studying the water. He was sensing some energy from it--not as easily as he had from the stones dorm Sing and the ground near Indiana, but he could definitely sense it....He nodded decisively. Well then, there was nothing for it. His experiment in tracking and tracing magical pulses would have to be conducted again, on a third medium. He had proved that he could find living things in dragonmade rocks.... excellent foci in the earth itself... now it was time to see if he could sense anything through water....

Rune turned to the Mirror in charge of the stall, smiling politely. "Excuse me, may I bob for something? I'd like to find out if I am any good at sensing magical traces through water, you see."

Ignoring the bemused expression on the stall owner's face--other dragons never understood his experiments, why, some of them even ran the other way when he got out his runes!-- he waited until the Mirror assented, then darted purposefully to the tub. Closing his eyes he concentrated, searching out the elusive pull.... THERE!

With a wide grin, Runemaster dove straight into the bucket, heading for what he had sensed....

Perhaps the Clan--and the Festival Grounds--have gotten a reprieve from whatever Rune intended to do with those Jasper pieces?....Or perhaps not, considering that Spellweaver is now looking for him...

A bright golden Spiral was darting towards the digging stall, clutching a resigned looking comet in her hands, and proudly wearing a wreath of flowers around her long neck. At the last moment, however, she veered off--apparently attracted by something else in the Festival grounds--and narrowly avoided colliding into the head of a stately looking Imperial, who had been studying a scroll.

"Oops! Sorry Merlin!". The Spiral waved her free hand distractedly, "just looking for Rune--his magic was coming from over here, but now it's not--have you seen him?"

"Over that way," the Imperial waved his paw without looking up from his scroll. "He was pursuing that golem of his...something about carrying a new foc--". Abruptly, the Imperial looked up, looking slightly alarmed. "I mean a new rock--yes, just a boring rock. Not a foci..oh noooo....I didn't say that. I didn't!"

Too late. Spellweaver's eyes lit up. "A new foci! Oh goody! I need something new to channel the energy around our campground.... and Rune's foci are always the best... even if they do explode sometimes....over there, you said?" Without waiting for an answer, she zipped away, grinning madly....

Merlin stared after her for a moment, pondering the advisability of chasing her down. After remembering how wildly that jasper Runemaster had been waving had been pulsing, he decided against it. Maybe Spell's energy could, er, balance the stone?

Oh, this does not look good...but at least Rune is distracted by his bobbing...

[(From EclipseDragon:
(Roll 59)

"Sensing magical traces through water?" The mirror had no idea what the spiral was talking about, he was as far from understanding "magic" as it got, but if the spiral wanted to bob for gems, FudgeRipple wasn't going to stop him. "Go right ahead and try."

{Rune pulled an Ice Crystal}

"Maybe you need a little more practice.")]

Runemaster sat back with his find, cradling the Ice Crystal gently. His Fox Rat took a swipe at it, and he firmly moved out of the little one's way. 'No, no, not for you...I need to keep this intact... I'll get you something else to play with, I promise."

He glanced up at FudgeRipple, cocking his head. "Practice? Why would I need practice?" Happily, he waved the Ice Crystal in the air. "I found exactly what I was looking for!" He grinned, and then, seeing the bemused look on the Mirror's face, decided he needed to explain further...."All objects have magic of some kind attached to them, you know... my mate is teaching me how to sense it... and I have now proven that I can find it in 3 different mediums!" His already wide grin grew wider... and a bit wild..." Now I can reach out to that magic in my runecarving....and Spell will be able to direct the magic more easily with my help! Oh, I can't wait to tell her we can do more interesting experiments!"

At the wildly happy declaration, a small golem, which had arrived while Rune was under water, let out a very loud beeeep.....and started to back away again....

Instantly distracted from his "teaching mode," Rune turned away ftom the Mirror, smiling happily. "Tre! There you are!" He dug in his vest, pulling out a tiny, spiky tool. "Come here, I need you to carry this Ice Crystal... I'm going to put it with the others for my present for Spell when we get back home, but right now it needs to be kept cool....I'll need to draw a rune or two on you so your metal will be cold enou--Tre! Where are you going?!

The golem did not answer the shout, already half-way across the Faire grounds, heading wildly for the exit and the dubious safety of the campsite for Rune's Clan--and more importantly, the Clan Mother.

Huffing in annoyance, Runemaster scooped up the Fox Rat and darted after the now hastily retreating golem, so intent on catching his wayward friend that he didn't stop to wave goodbye to the Mirror who ran the stall....

And it looks like "not good" is rapidly becoming "very, very bad"...

11-27-14: As it turned out, "very, very bad" was a decided understatement.. Unfortunately, when they found each other, Spell and Rune managed to snatch Merlin's own prize (an Earth Runestone) while the Imperial dragon was too busy studying his equations to notice, and very quickly thereafter the two Spirals ended their "no explosions" streak with quite a spectacular blast...

A slightly singed female dragon headed into the Festival Grounds, looking--resigned. Considering the scorch marks on her wings, and the odd twist to her tail, this expression was a bit odd for anyone who didn't know her, but the truth was Duskshadow knew she had only herself to blame... after all, she was the one who had agreed to assist Spellweaver and Runemaster in their latest project... though she would dearly like to throttle Merlin for letting Spell have that runestone....where had he gotten it, anyway? And why, oh why, did he give that pair a stone that channeled Earth energy while they were in Earth Flight lands? It was a good thing the Pearlcatchers had been able to contain the fallout...

So apparently combining several foci together, including Jasper, Violet Flowers, an Ice Crystal and an Earth Runsetone to channel it all, makes for quite an interesting experiment...and a decimated camp. Oh boy...And now, to make matters worse, Rune and Spell have given Beeblebrox, who was supposed to be watching them, the slip, and are back at the Festival, looking for something called C3...or was that C4? Either way, it probably isn't healthy for the rest of the camp--what's left of it...

11-28-14: Fortunately, the Clan Mages were able to fix things before the Clan was barred from the Festival Grounds. For Spellweaver and Runemaster, however, the Festival has ended, as Duskshadow used a containment spell to confine them to the camp--without their new toys. Oddly, the pair don't seem too bothered by this. They are spending all their time with their heads together, excitedly discussing the results of their latest experiment--and how the runes on the Jasper need to be tweaked to better contain the magical energy--and don't even seem to have noticed the Clan's ire...

1-13-15: Rune's Everglade Lasher has Awakened! He is happy and excited for his friend, and even more so as a Fox Rat has been patiently waiting for his turn every since the Rockbreaker's Ceremony.... The Lasher is in the mood to explore, so there should not be any problems on that front.....

1-14-15: The Everglade Lasher has decided to explore...and the patiently waiting Fawn Fox Rat has moved quickly into the vacant spot near Runemaster in the lair. Rune is extremely happy that his young friend and he can begin to properly bond at last--while the rest of the Clan still can not figure out why, out of all the rocks smashed during the Rockbreaker's Ceremony, this particular familiar chose to come out of Rune's rock, and not one of the less enthusiastic dragons.....

4-14-14: The Fawn Fox Rat has Awakened! It doesn't really change much, of course, but it is a milestone to celebrate.... and maybe now that he is a bit more mature the Fox Rat will stop chewing on Rune's tail? One can only hope...

2-26-15: The Clan is currently involved in a Prank War with Teeka's Clan, courtesy of some tricks during the Trickmurk Circus getting out of hand, and Runemaster has been swept into it, thanks, of all things, to a request from Duskshadow. It seems that the Clan Mother was extremely annoyed by a certain beeping mechanical bug, and wants something done about it...

Rune had been quite exasperated by that musical tone, which happened to be just the right frequency to disturb his latest experiment. In fact, he was more than eager to take over the whole project, which suited the Clan Mother perfectly, as she didn’t really like to involve herself in Clan battles…even ones that were in good fun.

Rune and his golem spent all day on his project, carefully assembling 3 smaller versions of a robot dog. In fact, they looked like robot pups, and used the same energy patterns as a golem. The difference was that these pups could be disassembled and reassembled without harming them, whereas their larger counterparts would never work again after such treatment.

Once the pups were complete, Runemaster took one and put it away for his own Clan to play with later, then carefully disassembled one of the other two again, taking several key pieces out of the pile. A few minutes work on the second, still assembled pup, and Rune had a series of places where it looked like an extra piece should fit….but it didn’t quite work. Once he was satisfied, the Spiral disassembled the second pup, adding the 10 pieces he had set aside from the first one--and tossing 2 key pieces from the second pup into the pile for the first one while he was at it. Rune then placed all the pieces from each pile into 2 separate large boxes, and fixed the same note on the top of both boxes, while casting a spell on the box for the pup he had disassembled first--the one now missing 10 pieces, and containing 2 that did not belong to it.

The Clan Mother had already spoken to Sunfire’s Sunspot Clouddancer, so he was waiting for the boxes. Runemaster explained how he wanted them placed, then sent the Clouddancer off to deliver the gift to the only Clan in Plague that both knew where the Clan lived…and had a dragon skillful enough to make something like that musical bug. When the Clouddancer arrived at the Clan in question, he placed the boxes next to each other near the cave entrance. As soon as he set it down, the second box vanished, not to reappear again until several hours after the first box had been found—and the overabundance of pieces had been discovered. This left one seemingly lonely single box, with with its note:

Fighting Pup…Some Assembly Required ….

And it appears that Rune's prank hit home, but unfortunately arrived about the same time as another prank from Spellweaver struck a couple Nocturnes, coating them with slime that would not wash off...

[(From Teeka:
Feldspar and Tourmaline were caught off guard by the slime ball and quickly tried to wash the mess off, only making it worse in the process. They went from using water to rolling in the mud to try and scrape it off and then tried rolling in dust to try and make the mess dry faster. After this they sought out the nearest source of rags and towels to try and finish cleaning off, or at least they assumed it to be a collection of towels and rags. Unknown to them they had found the day's wash, hung out by Marigold to dry and when the skydancer returned the pair was long gone and she found all her work in a filthy pile of the ground. Someone was going to pay for this, she just had to figure out who. Gathering up the pile she stormed back to the cave, where she found Plumeria busily working on something while muttering darkly about thieves and poor quality control. Unbeknownst to the pranksters Plumeria had ordered something very similar from her home Flight recently and when she saw the box she had figured that the delivery had come early.

Marigold offered what little help she could and while assisting the fae as best as she was able, she explained the laundry situation. Needless to say, Plumeria instantly knew who was to blame and the pair set out to get back at the tricksters....)]

So things are getting worse...but on the bright side, it looks like the two "fronts" MIGHT have melded into one again...

5-12-15: For the first time, Spell and Rune have chosen their familiars at the same time... and no one is sure that this is a very good idea except them. While Rune is fascinated at the possibilities of what Hati and his brother can do with all that energy, the rest of the Clan is terrified at what two devourers of heavenly bodies could do to the lair--and the dragons within it....

8-10-15: Hati has Awakened! The Clan isn't sure whether to be happy about this or not--though Runemaster is ecstatic--but they are extremely relived that the wolflike creature hasn't devoured the Clan yet....

1-12-16: The Everglade Lasher has decided that it has had quite enough of explosions, twisting magic, and unstable energy, and retreated into the river in the Vault. Runemaster does not seem to be that concerned.... but then the Opposing Forces he recently befriended have been taking up a great deal of his time. Hmmm.... What would happen if he introduced them to Spell's Unlikely Alliance collection? Oh the possibilities!

1-26-16: Spellweaver and Runemaster have entered the Sornieth 2016 Winter Games at the Ice Festival! They have an interesting set planned....

...Spell and Rune waited patiently for their turn at the Ice Skating competition. Spellweaver's faithful comet whizzed around her, whistling encouragement, while Runemaster's Golem buzzed in quiet anticipation. Usually known as pyromaniacs and magical inventors, the Spiral pair delighted in causing mayhem--and had developed a (completely non-magical) routine to take full advantage of that.

At the sound of the whistle, both Spirals skated out onto the ice, their bodies undulating around each other seamlessly. The looked almost like a perfect whole, rather than two separate dragons. One entity complete in itself, their movements perfectly timed with each other. In the background a quiet piece of music had begun, providing a beautiful counterpoint to their antics.

As the skating continued, however, both the graceful movements and the music became more wild, and Spell and Rune began to twist into figure-eights and combinations that accented their differences, rather than showed off their seamless cooperation. It took only a few minutes for the dragons of their Clan to realize what the athletic pair were doing: They were using their own bodies and the music to simulate one of the explosions they loved so much. The music built to a crescendo as the two Spirals twirled around each other...and then broke apart, skating to opposite ends of the rink, where they performed two perfect quarter-axles at the same exact moment in time. With a flip of their wings both dragons landed perfectly, just as the music stopped. The watching dragons seemed a little stunned at this display, so different from the gentle movements that everyone else had done...

1-27-16: To the shock of everyone--including some of the commentators--Spell and Rune walked away with first place in the Ice Skating competition! The Clan is still reeling from this development....

4-13-16: The Opposing Forces still have not managed to streak over to Spellweaver's Unlikely Alliance friends, but they have now Awakened.... and as a result their orbit is moving outward. This could be a problem....

1-29-17: During the 2017 Crystalline Gala, the Clan captured a very odd creature. Runemaster took one look at this literal living rune and knew that he had to have "Unown O" for his own....

1-28-18: So the Crystalline Gala has come again, and it seems that Rune is already making some mischief. This year, he had to be persuaded by Emerald not to blow up a food stall by painting runes on various food items and then charging them….

1-29-18: Emerald managed to rescue Rune from the security dragons, but it was a near thing. A VERY near thing. Today they went back, and Rune and Spell ended up engaging in a wonderful new game exploring an odd new magic, rather than starting the snowsquall they had been working on for months....and now the Clan has to figure out what to do with all these energetic plushies that are cluttering up the lair....

7-25-18: Spell and Rune are once again enjoying themselves at a Festival. Fortunately, however, since they dragged Duskshadow along to a Beauty Contest, they do have SOME supervision....

The tent had been quiet for a little while, as the dragons entering Mainframe's beauty contests milled around, waiting to see what would happen. No one seemed to be paying attention to the machine that was usually the center of the action, and it was easy for a certain two Spirals to slip quietly out of the crowd and move to get a closer look...

Spellweaver wove around herself, happily studying the Metamorpher. It was even better than she had been lead to believe by Mystery's tale. So much power sparking around it, so much energy to be felt, so much wonderful magic in the air...laughing in sheer delight, the excitable Spiral shot forward towards this marvelous machine, expertly dodging her mate's tail as she did, and completely ignoring the frightened shaking of her Compamion Comet as the pulsing energy started to build around her....

Runemaster snorted in amusement at his mate's antics, slipping easily past her as she began to undulate in the air near the odd machine. Directing Tre to examine the other side, he nodded to himself. He could not deny that Spell's excitement was warranted. He could feel the runes powering this device pulsing with energy. Oh, what he would give to have full access to the schematic for those runes....Flicking his tongue out, Rune darted even closer to the device, studying it intently, dancing a pattern around his mate as he did so, and absently noting that the air appeared to becoming more charged the longer they moved...

It is fortunate that Dusksahdow was paying attention, and was able to prevent disaster, reminding the two of their need to provide items to enable the machine to work. This interruption to their concentration stopped the budding storm, and thus stopped the possibility of an unplanned metamorphing in the middle of the tent....

10-1-18: It came as no real surprise to anyone in the Clan that Runemaster and his mate, Spellweaver, should develop Spellwrought and Voltaic Halos in the wake of the Starfall Celebration this year. The only real surprise was that it took so long for them to appear....

4-17-20: Rune was playing with some new stones near the Clan’s river, when an unexpected visitor squirmed under his arm. The Riverglade Lasher has returned from the Vault! Runemaster is extremely interested in finding out what made the Lasher decide to come “home,” but first he needs to see if this new stone sequence will make the Lasher glow in the dark or not…

5-30-20: Rune decided to stop making his Lasher glow for the time being, and has headed to the Greenskeeper Gathering Gaming Convention with his mate. What, exactly, Spellweaver and Runemaster want to do at a Gaming Convention isn’t certain, but at the moment they seem absolutely fascinated by a certain Window in the wall. Looking at it is reminding them of all the lovely creative chaos they have caused over the years… ( )
