Personality

Othello was a blue and white pearlcatcher, often described as the spitting image of his father in appearance and personality. However, he has since changed into a Gaoler, fitting for his persona and job within the Ocean Lotus Reef. He is loyal to the reef and steadfast in his duties. Those who cross his path best be friends, as foes will be felled.

While not born within the frozen home of the Ice Flight, he always felt more of an affinity with the element rather than Light. He prefers colder climates, which is why he patrols the northernmost parts of the clan and isn't afraid to go down into the cold depths of the sea.

He doesn't seem to care about labels all that much, he considers himself Agender if anything as it means little to him. Interested in any sex for a partner, it takes a lot of effort to get past his icy shield he keeps around his heart. One such female had managed to do it named Desdemona. She is his light in the frozen abyss and he will do anything to keep her safe. Around her, he can't help but dote on her, proving he has a softer side despite everything.

Born within the pillars of the Light Flight as a Pearlcatcher, Ice seems to be more his home. Regardless, he grew up within a different clan before becoming part of the Ocean Lotus Reef. He keeps his pearl close and is a fierce protector of the clan he calls home.

He was found by Kaless, gravely wounded within Shadow's territory. The beasts would have claimed him has Kaless not interfered. Othello caught a glimpse of him before falling unconscious. Several days later, he awoke near pillars familiar, yet not. A polar opposite from his roots. His wounds were bandaged, though still tender. The first dragon he saw was a green colored coatl in druidic regalia watching over him.

"Ah. You've finally awoken." She said with a smile. Folding her wings back, she stepped closer to inspect his wounds. "Your wounds would have been fatal had the General not brought you here, friend. My name is Ostara." A slight bow of her head was given as she introduced herself.

Othello rubbed his head, then looked around for his pearl frantically! Thankfully, it was right beside his bed, though slightly cracked. He'd made a mental note to mend it later. Shifting slowly to sit up fully, golden eyes laid on the female coatl. "Othello." He said simply. "Where am I?"

Ostara watched him cautiously, not really wanting him to move too much just yet. "You're within the Forum of the Obscured Crescent with the Moonflower Coven. This is the heart of the Shadow flight's territory." She calmly explained.

Othello tried to take a few steps forward, but nearly collapsed. Seems his legs weren't quite well enough to start going far just yet. Ostara was quick to catch him and help him lay back down. "Easy now. Your body needs time to heal."

He nodded in agreement. "I saw a snapper just before a passed out." Ostara smiled. "That was General Kaless. He is head of our vanguard and mate to Archdruid Jetfyre. Strong and brave, he is one of the most honorable dragons I've ever met. From what I know, he heard some screeches near our territory and went to investigate. Next thing I knew, he had you on his back, demanding immediate medical attention to you."

Othello hummed and nodded. "I'll have to speak to him once I am well." He mumbled before closing his eyes to rest some more.

During his recovery, he did exercises with Ostara's help and took the time to mend his pearl with the special saliva only pearlcatchers can create. After a few weeks, he was well enough to go speak to Kaless directly. "General Kaless?" He called to the large armored snapper. Kaless slowly turned around, each movement making loud thudding noises on the ground. He was massive and had a battle scar or two in full view.

"Ah. You're the young one I found a few weeks ago. Hah! Already walking around. Impressive." Kaless grinned in amusement. Othello's expression didn't change, looking as firm as ever. After a moment, he bowed. "I've come to thank you, General. You saved my life that night and your healers were kind beyond words to me. I owe you my life and I wish to serve."

Kaless looked a bit confused before letting out a boisterous laugh. "Hahahaha! Nonsense, boy! We do not condone slavery here and you owe us nothing." Othello rose up to look at him. "I want to serve. Allow me to help protect the clan too. My father taught me much about his duties as a guard. I feel my skills can be put to good use."

Kaless let out a low rumble, almost a hum in thought before nodded. "Welcome to the Vanguard....erm...." "Othello, sir." He said, a smile crossing his lips. Kaless grinned. "Othello. We can station you as a guard, patrolling the north part of our territory primarily. For now, focus on healing. We need you at your best. In the meantime, I will have Obsidiana, our blacksmith, craft you the finest armor to match you." Othello could feel his heart racing as joy overtook him. "Thank you, sir. You won't regret this."

Obsidiana crafted icy armor for the pearlcatcher and he now patrols primarily the north end of the territory, enjoying the colder temperatures and winds in the area. Nothing gets by his watch.

Even when the clan moved to the Windswept Plateau, Othello remained in the northern end of the clan. In this time, he met an ice mage named Desdemona and she was able to melt his ice cold heart with her wit and tenderness.

One day, a large guardian by the name of Galore visited the Windflower Coven, speaking to the clan's historians about some scrolls they had found. Since they were from the icy north, Othello's interest was piqued, but he did not interfere. To his surprise, the scholar, Tal, approached him with Desdemona at his side.

"Othello! Do you have a moment?" Tal called to him. Othello turned and have a nod. "Of course, Tal. What can I do for you?" Tal was grinning from ear to ear and had his pack with him. "I've been given some very interesting scrolls from the icy planes that you and your mate would be interested in--"

"The Gaoler's have emerged!" Desdemona interrupted in her excitement. "And these scrolls are magically charged to allow us to become one."

Othello looked shocked. Scrolls to become a Gaoler? An ancient breed that guarded dragonkind from the most dangerous creatures in the tundra. They were stronger by far than most dragons. "Incredible....."

"I can set up the spell from these scrolls to change us....if....you want to, that is." Desdemona spoke, hope evident in her eyes. Othello nodded firmly. "Yes, I do. I will use this new form to become stronger for the clan." His mate set to work, setting up the proper runes and circles. Both scrolls unfurled and together they chanted the words written to change them forever.

The runes and circles glowed, as did the scrolls. Both dragons were floating in midair as magic swirled around them. In a brilliant flash of light and a loud thud, both Othello and Desdemona opened their eyes and looked upon one another. They had become Gaolers and icy shards seemed to have grown from their shoulder and flank.

Once more, the clan was moving. Othello was a bit reluctant to change again, but he was loyal to the end and wished to stay with the clan. The shift in leadership made him on edge, but he would adapt. Their new home, the Sea of a Thousand Currents, was an interesting choice. Othello took on the colder northern waters as his area to patrol and defend.
