Her first memory is that of the cold bite of wind as it wrapped around her small body. She laid curled, shivering and barely alive beneath a tree. There was a quiet darkness and the soft rustling of pine leaves as they bowed under the weight of the snow. Her nestmates were all gone and her parents had abandoned her to the Icewarden. She was too weak. Too much of a burden to them. Wildclaws were a proud race and when their brood were born too weak, they were left for their deity.

Skadi was so close to the abyss when the young Skydancer found her. Not much older than herself, Hale used his soft wings to shield them both as they waited out the storm.

The storm passed many days later; the wind dying down to let the snow drift lazily around. The young dragons lie exhausted and frozen through, but Hale was determined to see them both alive. With his last bit of strength, he hefted Skadi and himself aloft, carrying her gently in his claws. Hale had been on his way to The Aspen Forge when he'd come across the small Wildclaw and so he pushed on.

Some time has passed now, and Skadi has not grown much in size. But, in spirit and bravery she is mighty. She took quickly to battle and her wit grew to overtake even the strongest of the clans dragons. Before too long, Baldur, elder and leader of The Forge, began to notice her strides towards leadership. For many years, he had sensed a challenge was soon to come, but never did he expect it to come from such a small Wildclaw.

Baldur was strong. Formidable. Smart. But, as a Guardian, speed was not on his side. That was how she had bested him. The battle was not easy. In the end they both stood ready to collapse. When Baldur lowered his head and gave a nod to Skadi, he smiled. He had never met such fierceness coiled in such a small package.

The clan was not so taken with her victory and she still strives to win their respect and support. Baldur advises Skadi, almost happy to pass the torch to a younger mind and Hale shadows her with watchful eyes. She was once on the brink of death, staring into the abyss and ready to join the Icewarden. Now, Skadi leads a strong clan and uses her anger and resentment toward her parents for fuel to burn the fire in her heart.
