The scout slipped through the sleeping clan, searching for a target for assimilation. Its hive was small and thus used any available drone for reconnaissance, regardless of specialty. Perhaps it would bring back a Bogsneak, or preferably a Mirror.
It ignored a dozing Imperial, taking caution to avoid stepping on its whiskers. The drone was small and thus unlikely to assimilate the Imperial without its thrashings alerting the clan. Its head turned, detecting the faint odor of a Bogsneak, and took off in its direction, twice as fast as before. In its vigor, it failed to detect a scattering of pale blue fireflies.
It approached the Bogsneak, then paused, seemingly unsure of its ability to complete its task. Its moment of hesitation passed as it used a discarded tusk to prop open the larger dragon's mouth. The drone instinctively prepared to engage its fluid sac.
And was whisked away in a cloud of blue fireflies.
