“You shine with celestial splendor,”
— Friedrich Hölderlin, from Poems; “The Archipelago,”

Celestial always prided himself on his ability to tear any dragon down from their metaphorical pedestal, just before he tore them down in reality too. It was in his nature. Growing up in the frigid outskirts of his clan had taught him to have a thick skin, mentally and physically, so when he came of age he made his way to the center of his home to find something to fit his skills.

And find it he did.

Coincidentally, just as he'd wandered into the town square of Petrified Winds, a guardian crowned by ebony antlers called out over the crowd, demanding and expecting to be heard. Everyone in the clearing paused, afraid of the outcome, simultaneously breathing out a visible gust of relief when their leader made a noise of approval. She began to speak of a Gladiator’s Trial, of finding a worthy successor and a right-hand-dragon to confide in. All they had to do was battle each other, and whomever came out on top would go forth to the next round, until eventually the winner would be decided.

Celestial leaped at the chance - literally - knowing in his heart that somehow fate had drawn him to the exact moment Morana had given her speech. He immediately threw himself into the contest, starting off admittedly clumsy and meek but quickly adapting to his new lifestyle, earning fancy armor and jewels from his supporters to aid him in his duels. Right now, he was the most popular in the contest, consistently coming out on top in the fight for his witty, under-the-skin comments and deadly moves - Morana herself had even praised him once for his diligence.

He would become her right-hand-dragon, he vowed it to himself. Celestial; the Gladiator, for now. -Written by Kasairan #416536
The day had come. With golden wings raised high to the sun, the fearsome Guardian was ready to claim his Charge. He was chosen by her to succeed to the throne provided he could prove his worth in the ring of the most elite Gladiators. He cared little for the lives he would trample in the process of claiming his prize. This was his destiny and he would not shy away from the chance to grab and hold onto it forever.

The annual competition he was participating in was a gladiator’s cup, where competitors fought to the death for the honor of standing by the sides of Morana, a commanding and foreboding presence in this small, powerful clan of the Southern Icefield. Ever since he had come to the clan, he had vowed to earn this honor and become her successor and confidant. He was every bit as devoted as she was and aimed to prove it.

As the icy sun glinted against his wings, he stared dead ahead, eyes filled with an icy blaze that screamed out to the empty winds, “I am the only one who will stand by her side, and anyone who interferes shall perish by lightened justice.” His fellow competitor and Gladiator, Trouvaille, didn’t dare to speak to him. She, as many other had, witnessed firsthand the lengths to which he would kill to protect his destiny.

The fierce roar and cry of the devil herself shattered the lightening dawn’s silence and brought forth the fierce will of Celestial from his thoughts. Townsfolk and elites alike watched as she took her spot high on the pedestal, looming over the two Gladiators and the arena. For now, Trouvaille was safe and had already advanced, but Celestial now needed to make his way into the finals, and from there, shed the last blood needed to claim his title.

“Dragons of this clan! Today shall mark the last match before the annual Gladiator tournament finals!” The townsfolk cheered audibly, and their cries of happiness began to spread the fire dwelling within Celestial’s heart. “Our last semifinals match pits Celestial against the might and claws of one hundred Pronghorn Hunters! If he can beat each one, he shall advance to the finals!”

One hundred? His knees knocked a bit, but Celestial knew damn well he could not falter, even if it meant taking on his greatest fears. He recalled his youth, where his weak body was scraped nearly to death by the beasts of the Ruins. Today he would claim his vengeance on those little jerks and prove who was truly superior – all another stepping stone to be by Morana’s side.

“Enter the arena!” His feet moved themselves while he stared dead ahead at the center of the ring; townsfolk cheered louder as his dance with destiny neared its eve. The gates opened, and a hundred beasts with pelts of brown fur with antlers and claws swarmed the arena. They all charged directly at Celestial, the looks in their eyes indicating they’d lost all sense of reason and were intended to be as feral as possible.

Baring his claws against the weight of his armor, he charged at the oncoming crowd of Hunters and tore each and every one around him apart. He was quick, efficient and ruthless, demonstrating no regard for the monsters as each one died. He picked them off one by one, and with nowhere to hide many of them would soon be dead; no hiding places in the coliseum soon proved to be a major hindrance, however.

There were only a few left. His body was battered and bruised, but the fire in the depths of his soul never wavered or went out. He screamed out a roar of anger and undying determination as his body glowed brightly and deep golden hues engulfed his claws. He pounded the ground, unleashing everything stored within his soul to purge the world of the Pronghorn Hunters.

When the light had ceased, a hundred lifeless bodies now lay littered around the coliseum, a single wounded warrior standing alone in victory. He had guaranteed his advancement to the finals and proven to everyone that he had the power and spirit to single handedly protect the clan and its leader from every trace of danger.

As Morana announced his advancement to the finals, he smiled, his jaws taut with the blood of victory. -Written by shadowforestdrag #431376

He's humble, intelligent, humorous and perhaps a little too impulsive. But there's more than meets the eye, not surprising for somebody with his position.

He was born to a fairly rich family in a major town. He lived free of trouble until he was about a young adult, but at that point life changed.

He built a wagon and filled it with books and called it a mobile library. With the support of great parents, he explored new areas in a astonishing world. With his honesty and bravery, there was nothing to stop him from fulfilling all dreams. He would quickly become a force to be reckoned with.

Things change quickly. He felt there was a greater purpose for his life. So, he laid down his books and picked up a sword. Luckily he has gathered great companions in the clan to support him.
