Too many eyes,

Too many futures,

Heed the seer’s words, for they may prevent destruction.

━━ • • • ━━ HISTORY ━━ • • • ━━

Outcast from the moment they could fly, for their clan feared the spirit-touched, they became a traveler from the time they were young.

Qizon learned to understand the dangers of the forest very early on.

Not because their own life was put at risk, but rather that each and every one of their too many eyes saw different futures, different presents, and different pasts. All rotating about one another, clashing together and tearing one another apart, and far too many of those futures were ended by the forest’s dangerous entities. It would take them many years to learn to properly read these visions, for they were disorienting and distressing to the young Coatl.

Unlike most who found the Collectors, Qizon found they couldn’t rely on the few benevolent forces to help them find the fabled clan—for they found that the forest’s entities were blind to their presence and even the Smiling Spirit who was known to protect dragons walked straight through them on more than one occasion without acknowledging their existence.

So they marched on, asking those few who they came across and learning to read their visions, until they were finally met by a patrol of the clan they sought. The clan they sought, for they’d heard tales of its heroics, how it helped others trapped within the forest to survive, and would take in those with nowhere else to go.

They first saw the Mirror, with a hide of ice and eyes that wept snow—she was also spirit-touched, they realized. Yet her companions held no fear for her. Two of their not-true-eyes blinked as they saw visions; one, of her fleeing through the forest with a shadow trailing behind, the other of her laughing with a sodden Tundra who’d just climbed out of a river; the Tundra called her “Odiz.” Despite her icy appearance, her smile was gentle.

The second, a Spiral whose golden stare left a chill to run down Qizon’s spine. They grimaced at a vision of his bared teeth snapping for another dragon’s throat as someone distantly shouted at him—“Kortu!” they’d yelled, with no small amount of anger.

The third...another Coatl! Oh, they hadn’t seen one of their own kind in so long! They offered a cheerful smile under the shadow of a floppy-brimmed hat. Qizon smiled back as a vision of the friendly scout flashed through one of their not-eyes, showing them a snout gently bumping their own— Oh.

“I told you there was someone out here!” said the Coatl, who Qizon’s visions hadn’t revealed the name of.

The Spiral leered at them, a curl to his lip that bared teeth to reveal three of them made of gold. When his eyes turned to Qizon, the seer gulped and ducked their head low. “What are you here for? This is Collectors land.”

Biting the tip of their tongue, Qizon raised their head, looking to the other, far friendlier two, of the trio. “Looking for you. I…” they swallowed as the Spiral’s glare deepened, “I heard you take in outcasts.”

The Mirror’s ears flopped as she tipped her head, a wider grin finding her maw. “We’ll have to take you to one of our leaders to judge you for truth, but yeah. We do.”

Most of the clan, they found, wasn’t like Kortu—he was cold and distant from most of them, and slunk off for what was likely his nest as they approached what Qizon knew from their visions as the home of the Collectors.

Questions were asked, and answered in turn, and even as spiders skittered around her and spun webs in her crest, the leader called Valor was a kind dragon who listened with intent to the seer’s words. And when they finished, she merely nodded, gestured with her tail for Odiz and Malcolm—as she called the other Coatl—to find Qizon a meal and place to rest.

Over the years, they would become the clan’s seer, helping to protect it by carefully picking apart their visions of the present and future to know what the forest’s entities planned to attempt next.

And they would smile as one vision in particular came true; as they and Malcolm would develop a bond over the years, and bump snouts in passing even as they busied themselves with their own work, and share a nest in.

┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓

━━ • • • ━━ SPIRIT-TOUCHED ━━ • • • ━━

Qizon is spirit-touched, meaning that their hatching coincided with a spike in the forest’s energy where they hatched. In their case, this trait manifested itself in the following ways:

*Many eyes. Only their “primary” eyes function as normal eyes, however; the other scattering their body see different events in different areas of the forest – events past, present, and future. Sometimes they see multiple outcomes of the same event and don’t know which will become the true future until it actually transpires.

*Invisible to forest entities. While the forest creates spirit-touched in an attempt to claim them, something went wrong when it gave Qizon their abilities, and it’s now completely blind to their presence. All entities that it creates are, as well, meaning they can’t be directly harmed nor claimed by anything of the forest’s creation.
