Biography

8-3-2019
Shikra arrived at the inn, somewhat uncertain. She paced back and forth several times near the entrance, unsure of whether she should enter or not, before she was noticed by the inn keeper, Lana. The Guardian went out to greet her.

30751365p.png

"Hello. I'm Lana, the inn keeper. It's dangerous to go back into the woods now. Perhaps you should stay at the inn for a while for the fog to clear up first. Some dragons had attempted to return back the way they came before they're able to. They were never found again. Please, do come in."
Deciding that she would rather not risk getting lost forever, Shikra followed Lana into the inn.

9-3-2019
Shikra decided to learn more about the inn she was staying at on her second day. She went around the inn, coming across several other residents. She quietly listened to their conversation, though all she could gather was that none appeared to know much regarding the inn, only that they would know when they were supposed to leave.

The Pearlcatcher wandered around some more, before she came across one of the caretakers of the inn. She hesitated for a while, before finally deciding she would at least try to ask about the inn.

30747937p.png

"The inn? There isn't really much mystery to it. Lost dragons often stumble onto our doorsteps. The inn merely provides a place for them to stay before they are able to leave. You'll know when your stay at the inn is over, but for now, I hope you'll enjoy your stay."

10-3-2019
Shikra took notice of some of the new dragons at the inn today. It seemed that there were always new dragons arriving at the inn. They were led in by an Imperial dragon which Shikra had seen before, so the dragon was probably one of the inn's care takers. Shikra decided to introduce herself to present herself as a friendly figure should she need help in the future.

33328308p.png

"Shikra? It's nice to meet you. My name is Maximus. I'm the protector of the inn. I make sure that dragons who happen to wander into the woods don't get lost in its illusion. If you ever need to enter the woods, please let me know. I will show you where you need to go. Otherwise, I hope you enjoy your stay at the inn.

11-3-2019
As she continued to watch the other residents of the inn, Shikra noticed something. During the day and afternoon, she would find a lot of the staff in the inn talking to the other current residents. Admittedly, some appeared less friendly than others, but they all seemed to make an effort to offer companionship to the other dragons.

Expect for Maximus. The Imperial was strangely missing from the scene. Perhaps he was out looking for dragons still wandering in the woods, but even during the times when the Imperial was at the inn, he would quickly make himself scares and retreated back to... Well, wherever his nest was. Shikra wasn't that rude to intrude on the other dragon's personal space.

But... Perhaps she could ask the Imperial what was up when she happened to come across her in the hallways.

12-3-2019
Shikra ran into Maximus shortly after the Imperial had returned from one of his searches through the woods near the inn. She greeted him politely, expressing her hope that she wasn't bothering him.

33328308p.png

"Hello again. It's nice to see you... No, it's alright. Your presence is not a bother at all, I assure you."
That seemed to be all Maximus was going to say. Not wanting to be rude, but wanting to know why the Imperial seemed so distant, even towards the other care takers of the inn, Shikra decided to ask about the other staff at the inn.

33328308p.png

"The others...? They're alright. I'm thankful we're looking after the inn together. I'm not too good with hatchlings."
The Imperial then excused himself after a short moment of silence. Hm.

13-3-2019
Taking note of how distant Maximus was, Shikra decided she would try to learn more about the other care takers at the inn first, which was why she was surprised when she found Maximus in the Healing ward with Canary, the inn's Healer.

31515368p.png

"Oh, hello! Would you like some tea? There's no need to be shy- I made plenty for everyone!
Shikra nodded, accepting the food. Though the surprise of finding Maximus of all dragons having tea with Canrary still lingered long after the encounter.

Shikra received some food!

At the risk of appearing rude and forthcoming, Shikra didn't quite resist the urge to ask Maximus about Canary.

33328308p.png

"Canary...? Yes, I suppose she's quite important to me. I mean no ill will towards the other caretakers of the inn, but she is the only dragon I trust among all of them."
It seems the Skydancer held quite a place in Maximus' eyes. Shikra casually mentions the possibility of a shared past between the two dragons.

33328308p.png

"...Yes, I suppose you can say that we had quite a history with each other, before the both of us became caretakers of the inn."
That caught Shikra's attention. Maximus and Canary knew each other before they were at the inn?

15-3-2019
Not wanting the imperial to get too suspicious, Shikra decided that she would befriend Canary in order to ask her about Maximus' shared past with her. The Skydancer wasn't too difficult to find. She rarely strayed from the Healing Ward. Canary seemed happy that someone had decided to drop by and visit her.

31515368p.png

"Oh! I recognize you! You're the dragon from that day... Shikra, is that right? Please come in! Have you eaten yet? It's late noon already. I can whip up something really quick if you're hungry!"
Shikra watched as Canary went over to one of her cabinets, and stopped her just as she was about to hurl all of the food items into her potion cauldron, almost ruining the pot. The Skydancer slapped herself on the side of her head.

31515368p.png

"Ah! Thanks for reminding me- I have a bad habit of doing that!"
Shikra shared a nice meal with Canary!

Canary was easily befriended. In fact, the Skydancer's enthusiasm was almost contagions. As Shikra chatted with the other dragon, she found an opening where she conveniently changed the subject to ask Canary about how she and Maximus met.

31515368p.png

"Maximus...? Um, well..."
When the Skydancer appeared hesitant, Shikra carefully back-tracked, assuring her that she didn't need to tell if she wasn't comfortable. Canary shook her head.

31515368p.png

"No, it's not that. When I think about how Maximus and I met, though, I'm always sad and relieved at the same time. Had I been a bit too late in finding him, he... He might not have been... You know..."
Canary slowly trailed off, and Shikra tilted her head slightly. Whatever Canary did while the two of them met must have something to do with why Maximus trusted her so. But what was it...?

17-3-2019
Shikra spent several more days talking with Canary, quickly getting to know the Skydancer more. Though passionate, her demeanor quickly turned timid whenever the topic of her and Maximus' past was brought up. Deciding that she would get the Skydancer to open up about herself if she shared something about her past first, Shikra told Canary about her late mate. Of course, many details were left out, and her words were all carefully selected, but it was enough for Canary to get the basic idea.

31515368p.png

"Oh... That's... I'm so sorry. That was terrible. You shouldn't have to go through that. No one deserves to go through that..."
Canary shook her head sadly.

31515368p.png
"I wish I could have helped your mate. When Maximus arrived at my doorsteps, I wasn't sure if he would survive, either. That kind of helplessness when things are so completely out of your control is the worst... I know nothing I do or say can help amend what's happened in your past, but I hope this makes you feel better."
Shikra received a gift!

18-3-2019
From her conversation with Canary, Shikra seemed to have a basic understanding of what happened between the two dragons. It would seem that Maximus had either been really sick, or in extremely bad shape when the two of them first met. Canary must have nursed him back to health, but whatever happened to the Imperial must have had such a profound impact on him that he must have found it hard to trust anyone... Well, other than the Skydancer who had saved him.

But... What could it be? From what Shikra can tell with Canary, even the Skydancer seemed lost about what happened before she and Maximus left.

Perhaps this was only something Maximus could tell her.

19-3-2019
Maximus appears to regard her more wearily the next time Shikra sees him.

33328308p.png

"...You seem to be getting along rather well with Canary.
Shikra went with the obvious to avoid looking suspicious. It wasn't as if she was lying, either. Canary's cheerfulness was almost contagious. She was a joy to be around.

33328308p.png

"...I suppose she does have that affect on dragons."
Shikra nodded. She expressed that it was fortunate that the Imperial had someone so kind and compassionate as his companion. Maximus nodded, but didn't say much else, and the Pearlcatcher hoped that wasn't a sign that he was angry.

20-3-2019
Shikra couldn't seem to find Maximus anywhere within the inn. Concerned, she went to Canary, figuring the SkyDancer would know where he was.

31515368p.png

"Maximus...? Now that you mention it, I don't think I've seen him after he left the inn shortly after dawn...
The Skydancer must have felt Shikra's fear at the possibility of the Imperial getting lost in the woods, as she quickly elaborated.

31515368p.png

"Ah! It's okay! I'm sure he wouldn't go that far into the woods to get lost! I'm sure he probably just wants to be alone for a while. He does that sometimes, when he needs to think.
Shikra sighed, and nodded in understanding, though she was beginning to worry that Maximus saw her as attempting to get in between him and Canary. That was never her intention, and Shikra hoped she could clear things up as quickly as possible.

21-3-2019
Shikra was surprised when she saw Maximus approaching her the next day. She hadn't expected to find the Imperial so soon.

33328308p.png

"Hello... May I talk to you, for a moment?"
Shikra didn't mind. She followed the imperial to the small willow tree.

33328308p.png

"...You know, Canary tells me about you sometimes. She always tells me that you're a great companion to have around..."
Shikra didn't say anything, but the Pearlcatcher was surprised the Skydancer had thought so highly of her.

33328308p.png

"...Anyways... I wasn't sure how to feel about it at first. I know barely anything about you, so I wasn't sure how to feel about you... I suppose, what I wanted to say is, you don't seem like a bad dragon. And I wished I could have gotten to know you better."
Shikra smiled and shook her head, telling him that she did not mind, and they could get to know each other better now. The two dragons continued talking underneath the willow tree for a while.

22-3-2019
Shikra noticed that the mist surrounding the inn seemed to have dissipated. Curious, she asked Maximus and Canary if that meant anything special.

33328308p.png

"...It means your time at the inn has come to a close, Shikra. We cannot see anything outside of the fog. Only dragons who're able to leave can see it fade."
The group slowly headed towards the entrance. Canary seemed upset, but the Skydancer didn't stop her from leaving, either. Instead, she walked forward with something.

31515368p.png

"I'm going to miss you... Please write to us, okay? We have a mail box, but no one uses it, for some reason. I think it's because most dragons don't know about it, so if you get the chance, consider sending us a letter, okay?"

33328308p.png

"Likewise... While the inn prevents dragons from finding it again, letters have no problem arriving at our doorsteps. We would love to hear about the happenings outside of the inn."
After she had accepted both dragon's gifts, the fog appeared to pick up again. When it was clear once more, Shikra noted that she was no longer anywhere near the inn, or inside Starwood Strand, for that matter.
It was not difficult to find where she needed to go from there, once she regained her bearings. Perhaps she will write to the inn once she got home.
