QiuJin

QiuJin has long considered fear to be an old friend, having experienced - she thought - too much to be truly afraid of anything anymore. But that was before she watched her clanmates fall into deep slumber, alive yet gone in all the ways that matter. There is nothing familiar or friendly in the taste of this fear, and she would like nothing more than to run away from it forever.

QiuJin is sure she once loved the sight of the night sky, studded with diamonds and slivers of moon; nowadays it is a struggle to keep her breathing even when darkness enshrouds the wasteland. Night leads to sleep, and sleep inevitably to nightmares. For that reason, she watches the graveyard shift over their unwaking clanmates; the queen's magic is a work of art that keeps them all alive, but the wretched scavengers of the wastelands would devour the living if they could, and QiuJin is desperately glad to have a duty snarling and terrifying them away from her living family.

It's the closest stand-in to screaming away the cursed sleep she will ever have.
