Biography
"Remember your pain well, and let that shape you endlessly."
______ |
Children of the witch and the mechanic are taught how to control the Plague magic that is highly saturated in their bones from birth; some hatchlings have almost unstable concentrations of magic while others had all of theirs drained in the shell. The effects are always unpredictable. Regardless, their parents try to give them as full of a life as possible, nurturing and loving each of their children as best as they can. Of course, love and nurture won't always take. |

For all of her adolescence and part of her adulthood, Eir thinks that she's managed to flee from the curse that plagues her mother and nest siblings. As a hatchling, she displays no outward sign of having potent concentrations of Plague magic in her veins, and her parents heave an inward sigh of relief when checkups by the clan's healers and mages show that nothing is out of the ordinary. But Eir, curious as any hatchling, wants to know what it feels like to have that kind of untapped power. When she finally summons the courage to ask, her mother touches her throat. It burns, she says to Eir, right here, and it feels like if you open your mouth to speak, your magic will rip the life from you. She has as much of a normal childhood as a hatchling raised in the Wasteland can, and the moment she is of age, Eir sets out to seek her own fortune. Joining up with raiders is not the future she hoped for herself when she was young, but it pays well and she enjoys the danger that comes with the job. For a good many years, Eir is happy. Unfortunately, everything changes when a careless swipe at a guardian's charge in a skirmish results in an impossibly heavy claw crushing her ribs and razor-sharp teeth closing around her throat. Eir cannot describe what it was that happened then; all she remembers is an agonising pain flaring through her body-- you do what it takes to survive in this world-- and a brilliant flash of crimson before her eyes. The next thing she knows, the guardian is dead at her feet and her mouth feels raw and heavy. There's a funny sensation in her body, a dull pain that flows from her claws, her wings, her tail, all the way up to her head. It builds in her throat, and suddenly, all Eir wants to do is to sink to the blood-soaked dirt and scream and scream until the burning stops. Even as her eyes begin to well with tears, she knows then that it never will. | ______ |
