Children of the monster hunter (who is part monster himself) and the handler often inherit their father's beastly appearance and tendencies. The transformation happens under very different circumstances-- for some, only moonlight will trigger the change, for others, panic will do just fine.

Their parents aren't used to taking care of hatchlings, so what childhood they have is often little and quite precious. Regardless, there is one thing no one dares deny:

Even monsters are capable of love.

The first of the crow twins, Akeha-- or 'Keha', for short-- is blunt, hot-headed and loyal to a fault. Unlike Mokoya, his twin, Akeha tends to rush headlong into conflicts and skirmishes without sparing a thought for the consequences. He speaks up when he knows he must, and oftentimes his opinions, while correct and passionate, are conveyed rather rudely. Everyone he encounters either despises or adores him; oftentimes, there is no in-between.

The same unblinking stare, the same unsteady step, the same healing scars. Akeha and his twin were indistinguishable from birth, even to their own parents. Till he opens his mouth, no one can tell either twin apart.

As for why the pair are known as the crow twins, well, all one has to do is to incline their gaze skyward (or treeward) for an obvious explanation.

Akeha finds company in the rooks and ravens, the noisemakers and the cacklers. You can often find a bird or two picking at his fur or nestled comfortably in the crook of a wing. They're as close as family to him, to this child born of monstrous parents and arcane forces. He might not speak the language, but looking at him laugh and preen as his corvine companions mirror the motion, maybe he doesn't have to.

So far, he's been lucky to avoid the transformation that his father undergoes come dusk. His parents heave a sigh of relief knowing that he won't have to endure the pain or bear the weight of the secret itself, but it won't be long before Akeha realises that not all monsters look the part.
