Obsidian grew up as a blacksmith's apprentice, his master was strict and sometimes even harsh, but very thorough and never cruel. Their life was simple, mostly spent working on forging weapons and selling them to knights, rogues and traveling merchants.

Obsidian differed from other Skydancers in that he was hypersensitive - most skydancers are known to be perceptive to other's emotions, thus enabling them to mediate tense situations. Obsidian, however, perceives other's emotions with much stronger intensity - some emotions overwhelm him and give him migraines. This made him a recluse and quite antisocial, only opening up to his master.

Their idyllic life ended abruptly - one day Obsidian arrived at the workshop and became a witness to a crime. His master was killed and left to bleed out on the floor, several weapons had been stolen. Having lost his mentor and only friend, Obsidian set out to avenge his master, trying to track down the killer by combing through every market he came across, asking merchants if they had met someone trading or selling a weapon with a certain crest.

During his travels, Obsidian met Tati and Iolo. They had purchased one of the stolen swords but couldn't give Obsidian a clear answer to what the seller looked like. As a consolidation, they offered to take Obsidian in - they had a herbalist and healer who would help manage Obsidian's hypersensitivity. Obsidian took their offer and joined their clan.

Now Obsidian resides in the Tapio clan, working as the vault treasurer and fixing weapons from time to time. Dancer, the clan's herbalist, helps him overcome his migraines.

Obsidian became close to Procco - a dull colored Coatl who was an outlier among his brothers and sisters and came from the Frozen Wastes. Procco reminded Obsidian of his master - strong but understanding individual who was sensitive to other's struggles. Together they manage the hoard of the clan and bond over the fact that they both were the black sheep of their species.
