Alignment: Chaotic Good Narrative(s) Story written by SpiresOfSpirits Moon shivered next to Leonid, wrapping his tiny wings around his body. The Fae chattered and he ate another insect, quickly going through their store of food. Leonid himself wasn't bothered, his thick layer of fur protecting him from the cold. Another reason why he belonged. The sky was a bleak gray white, snow billowing down in fluttering waves of softened white. "Where are we going to look?" It was the first words the Fae had spoken since they had arrived, and Leonid glanced at him, then back to the ice blanketed world. "Everywhere." Moon disappeared under his coat, and reappeared, another insect in his mouth. He didn't speak, but his expression was clear enough: this wasn't the answer he was looking for. But Leonid didn't see the displeasure. He was already moving forward, padding through the cold drifts. He knew his parents were here, somewhere. He just had to find them. Even if it took searching the entire Icefield, he would do it. He knew they were here. *** The two had treked across the border between the Ice and Arcane realms, looking at the nearby clans for Tundras that possibly resembled him, or any whose smell he remotely remembered. The search had been fruitless, and now they were descending further into the cold. Moon muttered something, glancing back to the warmer temperatures. Leonid continued on, then paused. "Wait… I know." The Fae didn't ask, but he answered the unspoken question. "Where my parents are." He turned, aiming towards the center of the Southern Icefield. Where he remembered a faint scent, one that he knew. Moon passed him a couple of leaves, where Leonid suddenly realized he hadn't been eating. The Tundra nodded his thanks, and continued on at a fast pace towards where he believed, no, he knew, his clan was. *** The area was desolate. Empty. The snow blew into his eyes, and the Tundra trampled through the snow. The area held that scent he had far into his memory, but there was only snow. No clan that held his parents, not even the ruins of such a place. They were not here. "No…" Moon sighed, "Can we go back?" "No," Leonid shook his head, his voice gaining a desperate edge. "They have to be around here… somewhere." He dug into the white, the snow melting slowly. Dirt and grass appeared. No ruins, or signs of dragon life. The tears froze under his eyes. "You're a lightning dragon. Your parents are there, you know it." It was the most Moon had said in a while. His voice was colder now, with an edge of annoyance. The Fae was done with this nonsense, and he couldn't stop himself from showing it. Leonid paused, still bowed over the snow. "You're right… they're not here." He finally admitted. The doubt had long crawled into his brain, but he pushed it back, dragged on only by a sense he couldn't trust. There was no one here, much less his parents. "Should we go back?" The Tundra moved, the snow falling off his back. "Yes." "We…could go to the Shifting Expanse to find them," Moon suggested. Leonid shook his head. "No." He stood, raising his head, turning back towards his new clan across the continent. "Let's go home." For that was what it was now. Home. |
