Dragon Log

As flighty and fascinated with magic as any Spiral in the lair, she also has a slight--and not altogether surprising, considering the names of her parents (Song and Melody)--affinity to music. Indeed, along with her sister, she seems to use music more often than not to make her manipulation of magic work....a fact that intrigues Nimby, who thinks that they should read some of the Xanth novels he hoards. For now, however, the two Spirals have avoided the suggestion of reading in favor of the much more amusing lure of playing with their magic....

10-9-14: Her Common Podid has Awakened! She is happy for him, and looking forward to seeing what he makes of himself....

11-8-14: The Common Podid has retreated for some much needed rest to the back of the hoard, and she has found another to help on the journey to Awakening... the Blueridge Greatshell seems rather impressed by her music and her magic both. It looks like the start of a beautiful friendship...

1-10-15: Symphony.... Harmony.... Rhythm.... Perhaps the name of a great Bard? What will she name herself? So many choices!

2-5-15: The quest for a name continues, but the young Spiral has another distraction now: her Blueridge Greatshell friend has Awakened! It is a very exciting day for her, though he does not seem to feel much different.....

4-7-15: It appears that this young bard's music can, indeed, soothe the savage beast... or at least attract and "tame" the Maren Warrior! The other musical dragons are not quite sure what to make of this development....

7-6-15: Still entranced by the bard's music, the Maren Warrior has now Awakened! This is somewhat a relief to the rest of the Clan, as he no longer seems quite as interested in waving his weapons at the younger dragons....

9-16-15: Entrancing music seems to have an influence on several species. While she was playing her lute, this Spiral attracted the attention of a Brush Dodo, who froze at the sight of her. Despite the insistence of several older dragons that this is normal behavior for this particular race of Dodos, the Spiral remains convinced her music captivated him. And whether it did or not, he is clearly not going anywhere anytime soon....

12-23-15: The Brush Dodo continues to hang out around the Spiral Bard... and now he has Awakened! If he wasn't a member of the "family" before he certainly is now.....

4-3-16: It has been some time since the Common Podid has felt as sprightly as he used to, and he has decided that perhaps he should not indulge in so many strenuous activities. Accordingly, he has retreated to the Vault for the time being. This has not, of course, changed the "family" vey much. It just means that now they must visit him instead of the other way around. So far, the arrangement seems to be working for all concerned....

7-28-18: The Thundercrack Carnival has come again, and this Spiral and her sister have heard of an exciting experiment with a special machine...and even better a party...

What's a party without music? And odd-looking characters? The Clan's two oldest Bards have heard about all the excitement, and want to join in...

They wove around each other, strumming on their lute and harp, respectively, bringing a joyful strain to the already excited atmosphere. Where they went, smiles followed, and dragons began to dance, and sing, hardly noticing the odd weather patterns that also seemed to be developing, as leaves and...snow?!....began to swirl around them...

Meanwhile, while some were enjoying the party, the Clan's more experiment-inclined dragons were still bringing items for the Metamorpher...and taking a twirl or two through the falling leaves every once in a while, when they thought no one was watching...

And as the party continued, Duskshadow slipped around to the back, to settle down and watch the festivities. With so many of her Clan at the party--and still bringing items--she had decided it would be best to keep an eye on things. Absently, she blew a snowflake away from her nose, as a falling leaf tickled her tail. Flicking at the rose that had just landed near her, the Clan Mother suddenly froze. Leaves, Roses, SNOW? Oh NOOO...

Duskshadow scrambled to her feet quickly, searching the guests. Where were they? They KNEW better than this! Catching sight of her quarry, Dusk stormed over.

"WHAT do you two think you're doing?! This is the Shifting Expanse! Keep this up and we'll have a magical storm that will destroy the whole area! Turn it off, now!!"

Turning away from the two sheepish Spirals, Dusk shook her head as the music lost its odd, compelling quality and became much less weather oriented. "And I thought Spell and Rune were bad..."

Oh dear...Well, at least the Clan Mother was able to prevent disaster...and don't the two Bards look positively dashing in their new Flame and Sage outfits? Now all they have to do is come up with a name....

3-23-20: Tune and her sister decided to journey to the Mistral Jamboree this year, in the hopes of picking up some new musical ideas at the Cloudsong Celebration. Upon their arrival, they encountered a little more than they had bargained for, in the best possible way, when they were entertained by a Spiral using what appeared to be Weather Magic to make a mini-version of the Twisting Crescendo. ( ) Not only did the Spiral give them some exciting new ideas for wind storms, but his spinning had a rhythm underneath it, that the two sisters were, in fact, able to turn into a new song… ( )

…And later, when they went to chat with the Imperial Fortune Teller in the corner, she “divined” a new gene for one of their Clan Mates…and then gave them the scroll with the needed spell! ( ,
) All in all, an excellent beginning to their Cloudsong adventure…

3-29-20: The Mistral Jamboree is winding down, but Tunespinner and Balladweaver are still going strong, working on composing some new, exciting music based on all their experiences this week. ( ) After the fun they had at the Clouldsong, they can’t wait to return next year--if the Clan Mother will let them come…

4-12-20: The Clan's familiars have been growing restless, and a number of those who had once retired to the Vault have begun to re-emerge. Today, Tune was greeted upon waking up with the surprising, but very welcome, visage of her Common Podid staring into her face. After she untangled herself from her den area, she happily welcomed her old friend back to the caves. Perhaps he will be able to help her with the new song she is working on...
