Under-Warden of the Sentinel Order
Dignified - Decisive - Protective
Most Gaolers born in in the mainland of Sornieth are born to Seekers who meet briefly and then part. Sometimes they will meet again and nest regularly, but often these dragons will never see each other again. Their mission, to hunt down fragments of Shade and return them to the Fortress of Ends is far too important to abandon in the name of raising a family. Most often the mother is left to tend to the nest, and then the hatchlings follow her on her Search. This provides great firsthand experience in both Seeking and in combat that gives these new Gaolers an upper hand against enemies as well as against others of their chosen order. Gaolers raised in this manner tend to climb the hierarchy of their order quickly. Sharhurith's experience was different. Though Gaolers are a large and deadly breed when needed, Sornieth and the business of Seeking can still be dangerous. Sharhurith only remembers emerging from his egg to find himself completely alone, the ground nearby gouged by numerous sets of claws and splattered with blood. He had some dim understanding of what must have happened, and consequently stayed well-hidden from any who crossed his path. Use of Shadow Magic came instinctively to him, and he relied on this and the cover of night to ensure that he would not be found. But Seekers are good at finding things, and it was a Seeker that found Sharhurith. A male by the name of Zerko. He took Sharhurith under his wing, teaching him how to be a Gaoler. Sharhurith became a Seeker. He had not considered any other option when it was time to choose his order. He knew that his parents had been Seekers, though his mother was dead and no one knew who his father was. More importantly, Zerko was a Seeker. The experience Sharhurith gained alongside him was instrumental in this decision. Sharhurith became known for his ability to use Magic. His spells were exceptionally powerful and precise, and he wielded his Magic in battle as naturally as any of his limbs. Some joked that his affinity for Shadow Magic made him more sensitive to the presence of Shade contamination. He maintained this notion as only a joke, but Sharhurith also became known for Seeking out contamination so faint or minuscule that nearly any other Seeker would have missed it. It was a long time before Sharhurith considered doing anything else. He was good at Seeking. But as his time as a Seeker went on, he realized how lonely that way of life could be. Did he really want to live the rest of his life traveling alone? Had he not been alone enough already? Did he want to potentially leave his own hatchlings behind to fend for themselves as he had had to? Sharhurith asked to be transferred to the Sentinel Order, and eventually rose to a position just under the Sentinel-Warden. Though his first duty was always to his position, he also began to build relationships with others, and made time to see Zerko as regularly as he could. When the Seekers were reinstated, Sharhurith was given the option to return. He chose to stay a Sentinel. |
