Becoming a Deity (WIP)

"You have your father's Contour," Yulalie whispered, gently stroking her daughter's fur. "It's what made him beautiful. Just like you."

"Will I ever be as brave as Father was?" Noctella asked with a yawn.

Yulalie stared silently into the sunset for a moment. "I think you will," she finally replied.

Noctella smiled, leaning into her mother's arms. In three months, she would follow in her father's footsteps. She would be Exalted to the Lightweaver. It was her greatest dream.

"I'll write to you every day, Mother. I promise."

Yulalie smiled down at her daughter, a smile full of deep sadness and wishful thinking. "I know you will."

"NOCTELLA! Dear sunbeams, it's noon! Wake up!"

"Mmmph," Noctella mumbled, rubbing the sleep out of her four eyes. She wasn't who she used to be. She knew that. Life in the clan of the Disillusionists was the past; she worked for the Lightweaver now. So why did she keep having that dream?

The other dragon handed her a small fragment of paper. "Her Brightness wants to talk to you. Something about the Emperor."
