DUKAAN
THE THING THAT SHOULD NOT BE
______________________

dukaan - "dishonour"
▬▬ ABOUT ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Dukaan was just another normal Imperial, once. Going by the name of Thorn, he would collect masses of useful and important data on the fauna of the Sea- despite being a Plague-aligned dragon, he attuned well to the water and its inhabitants as a young dragon, and even before he was turned he enjoyed the company of the sea creatures more than that of his fellow dragons.

While on an expedition into the furthest reaches of the Sea, Thorn stumbled upon a dark witch's lair- not that he would have known what the place actually was. The witch took his thorough exploration of the area around her abode as trespassing and harassment, and in response she cursed him. At the time, it didn't do anything to the small red Imperial, and he carried on his merry way (well, as merry as one can be after being spat at by a dark magician) back to the Guild's outpost much closer to the surface. As he was about to hand off the products of his expedition, a sharp pain shot through his skull, so strong that it felt like his head would split open. And, well, one could possibly say it did.

Muscular, dark red tentacles sprouted from the back of the dragon's head, flopping helplessly down and around his long neck as he cried out in agony. All of the hair on his body fell out and the areas it had been grew hard and scaly. His tail darkened and morphed into a larger tentacle to match his macabre headdress, his pale, glowing antlers a stark contrast to the writhing mess of dark appendages. While his facial shape remained mostly the same, Thorn grew jagged teeth and his skin bubbled like hot molten rock. The Guild's Creature and Arcana specialists were practically shoved into the room to determine what was happening to Thorn, who couldn't really be called a dragon anymore, along with a few bouncers in case something went horribly wrong.

The mutated creature lashed out violently at anyone who came close, and so was contained solitarily deep within the Outpost, as a safety measure to protect both the creature itself and the other dragons residing within the lair. After a short while, the experts within the Guild had managed to enchant a device which would, theoretically, keep the creature under control- while it wasn't guaranteed to work, it was all they had to try. So try they did.

It worked, mostly. The creature returned to his old, much calmer personality, though he lacked many memories of his life before he was turned. This included all memories of his mate and their single child. Volare, understandably, did not take this well, acting out violently against the creature and then leaving the Guild in her rage. The last thing she said to him - dukaan, dishonour - haunted him, and eventually he took it on as his name in shame of his altered self, despite his memories of before just barely escaping his grasp.

Dukaan now lives a relatively normal life within the Guild- he's much more suited to life in the water than he was before his turning, and he retained respectable intelligence, allowing him to return to his old occupation. While he doesn't remember exactly what went down on that fateful day, something within him screams for him to flee when he moves anywhere close to the witch's lair, lest she afflict him with a much less controllable curse...

BINDING MASK
The mask Dukaan wears over his face acts both to obscure his mangled visage and to prevent his newly-acquired bestial nature from surfacing. Without it, he is a risk to the clan, and to himself.
