Alexina

ALIGNMENT: NEUTRAL GOOD

She woke up on a path in a lightly wooded area and began to call for someone, anyone. The ground is hard and rocky, like clay. Her back legs hurt like she was running. The trees surrounding her are tall, thin, and nearly white with brown, dying leaves.

Where was she? Who was she? How long has she been out here? Was there even a “before”?

A voice was heard in the distance.

“Hello!”

She called back to him and the two met up somewhere in the trees. He was a Skydancer, mostly blue and brown, and still smaller than her.

They chatted for a little bit and she found out that his name was Gunner, and he’s run away.

He asked her for her name, and she opened her mouth to answer, only not saying anything because she doesn’t know.

After pondering for a moment, she says the first thing that comes to mind, “Alexina.”

He revealed to her that he left due to his parents, and she told him that she has no idea where she came from, or anything before now.

“Well, why don’t we set off together? I know the way, and you seem to be lost.”

She nodded, and they were off.

Alexina awoke to another morning of heavy dizziness. Despite the room being dark, opening up her eyes made it all too bright, so she shut them again.

She couldn’t tell if it was the weird new feeling of sleeping next to Gunner, or the lack of sleep itself making her feel this way, but it was getting old.

She curled up a little tighter as the visions came back.

The whole building. Falling. Screaming. Dragons struggling to get out. The smell of dust.

She shook Gunner awake and convinced him to get out of bed.

“The visions. It’s today at the earliest and we need to go.”

“Are you sure?”

“Have I ever not been?”

“Alright. Are we going to try and get everyone out?”

“It’s going to be an accident. Construction is starting today, which means we have to leave.”

“Okay, okay. Let me grab my stuff.”

The two hoisted their packs on and cracked their joints, readying themselves for more traveling. It’s what they did. What they’ve always done. Gunner had always wanted to be on the move, and Alexina was too in love to have a problem with it. They had years yet to settle down- if they ever wanted to.

The two checked out, quickly and walked for about an hour. Out of the most heavily populated area, Gunner felt his ears pick up something.

The two turned around and could see the building they had just been in collapse. A cloud of dust was left over, along with some of the building, at least from what they could see.

“You and your mind never cease to amaze me, my fair maiden.”

She smiled a little and pushed away the guilt that often came when the visions showed things she couldn’t stop.

She didn’t know anything about it other than voices last night. She heard it was going to be an accident, but couldn’t tell exactly what about the construction went wrong.

The two continued walking southward.

She smiled again, the sun rising higher into the sky.
