Tsunami Savin
The Guard & Boatswain aboard The Nematic
~formidable, protective, diligent~
{♫ Theme}-{he/him}-{cis}-{bi}-{middle aged}-{lawful neutral}
"Born by the sea, live by the sea, die by the sea."
Among the residential area, there seems to be an extra mailbox which doesn't belong to a home. The side of it is marked, "Tsunami - Aboard the ship, for good." Below New Nook City's flying island, there was a lighthouse at the base of one of the mountains, and docked nearby is the ship in question. You arrive and attempt to board the ship, but a sudden wave comes out of no where and splashes you, followed by a rough voice. "No!" A snapper aboard the ship quickly stomps towards you. "You don't have permission to come aboard, this is your only warning. Visitor to the Nook, or not, it's my duty to guard this ship. I am Tsunami, also the boatswain for our ship, the Nematic. I care for it, guard it, and make sure everything is in working order before we set sail again. This is a merchant ship, carrying valuable goods. If anyone thinks they can just come and steal things, they'll have to face me. I never leave this ship, it'll sink before I do that." He makes some religious motion, as if to cancel out the thought of the ship ever sinking.
The Nematic
Live by the Sea
Tsunami was a stoic snapper, who looked as though he were surfing on calm waters. As his feet touched the water, he was being propelled forward by his powerful water magic. He had been born to a proud mother of Arcane origin residing in a water clan, and the two elements combined to create unique water-bending abilities within Tsunami. Through the years he grew bigger and heavier, but not once in his life had he ever set foot on land. He was currently on a journey towards his mother's homeland as some sort of driving force seemed to be calling to him, but the waters around the Windswept Plateau had other plans. The waters were angry and fierce as the ancient hurricane hovered off the coast, battering the snapper with torrential water and whipping wind. As he fought to stay afloat, he was growing exhausted as his magic dwindled, and began to feel himself sink below the surface rapidly, as if he were a large stone. Suddenly he was hoisted back to the surface, and realized he was within a large net. In his struggle he hadn't noticed the large ship weathering the storm, and now pulling him out of the water. Tsunami looked up to see the rippling muscles of the sailors straining which each shout of "heave!" "Hold on!" The wildclaw donning a feathered hat called down to him. The snapper breached the side and lay resting on the deck as the small crew navigated out of the storm. "Born by the sea, live by the sea, and die by the sea. Why did you rescue me?" Asked Tsunami. "It's not your time yet." As Tsunami recovered, the captain explained how they saw the snapper propelling through the water and tried to reach him before the storm hit, wanting to recruit him for his magic skills and tough appearance. They sailed towards the Starfall Isles with Tsunami having taken on a new life as part of this crew. He stood on the sturdy wood planks, looking up at the black flag flying overhead, unmistakably signaling piracy, and said nothing. After all, the fact that these pirates had just pulled a drowning dragon out of a stormy sea said more about their characters than anything else.
The Boatswain Guard
As the Boatswain (pronounced bo-sun), Tsunami supervises everything that happens on the deck of the ship, which would normally be checking the rigging of the vessel and cargo, checking proper knot tying, and general deck maintenance. Being a snapper, however, his dexterity is limited and he cannot work the ropes himself. On the flip side, being a snapper grants him incredible memory, and thus he mentally catalogues any flaws he sees and not only assigns necessary tasks, but schedules and plans the day's work. Hanging from his neck is his Boatswain's Call, which he uses to announce various events and commands. As the ship's guard, he does exactly that. As he patrols looking for flaws, he also looks for potential damage in the form of unwanted visitors. Having a deep connection with the waters around him, he can sense atypical disturbances and is usually the first to spot another vessel approaching. In general, he refuses to leave the ship himself. When docking, even in their home port, Tsunami can be found on the ship guarding access to the gangplank. He can use powerful magic waterbending to sweep away anyone who doesn't have permission to board. As a snapper, he never sleeps, allowing him to guard the ship endlessly.
A Stolen Heart
Tsunami is a snapper who seems very tough, serious and intimidating - as a guard should be. While standing firm at the gangplank, he heard the sound of a motorized vehicle and looked to the source: A round tundra parked his motorcycle near the docks and approached the ship, looking up at Tsunami with a grin. The charming tundra introduced himself as Glacier, and broke the ice by trying to trade a thing or two with the merchant ship. As he chatted up Tsunami, the tough and serious facade that the snapper possessed started to crack, until Glacier reached Tsunami's inner softness. The conversation turned flirtatious, with Glacier explaining his many boyfriends and the dynamics of his relationships, and by the end of it, he'd asked Tsunami to be a part of it. To which, the normally aloof and tough snapper, accepted. After just one encounter, Glacier had wormed his way to Tsunami's heart and had stolen it. With the understanding that he was entering a poly-relationship with a drifting biker, they parted ways, but hopefully it wasn't for good. Upon finding out what happened, Tsunami's whole crew both teased and congratulated him. For days, the sea shanties were renditions of "Tsunami's in Loo-ooove!" To which the gruff snapper would loudly clear his throat before splashing them all with sea water. The two boyfriends continued their roaming of Sornieth while sending letters and packages to each other by courier, in which one of the times Tsunami had sent a tail lei made of seapetals. As time passed between letters, Tsunami would wonder which way the wind had blown the tundra, and what he might have been doing in that exact moment - which Tsunami always concluded "probably something really cool." As the crew docked at a port like any other, Tsunami heard the familiar sound of a motorized vehicle. He looked out onto the land below and found Glacier smiling back at him, and on his tail was the lei of seapetals.
Heavyweight Champions
Tsunami got his name from his incredible weight - if he cannonballs into the water he will cause a tsunami. The ship's boards creak under him when he walks. This one time the ship docked at a city, he accidentally, and don't ask how, entered a heavyweight contest and ended up winning the title of world's heaviest Snapper. At a later time, when the ship docked at a different place which was holding the quest for the chunkiest snapper, he reconfirmed his heavyweight title. While docking in another land, the cabin boy Jacko brought word back to the ship that Tsunami had been dethroned as world's heaviest snapper. A new course was set, and they sailed back to the origin of the Quest for the Chunkiest Snapper, to find that it was true - verified by the judge. Tsunami knew this day would come, and was only surprised that he held the title for so long, and so he passed the metaphorical torch to the younger snapper. He'd enjoyed the infamy of his position for a few years at that point, and was still very heavy and formidable as he wasn't that much lighter than the new champ. As the questers stood on the dock waving to them, Tsunami nodded them a farewell and they set sail once again. |
