Biography
SENECA
'We are thinking on the basest of planes. What we need, are
more eyes'

Seneca works in service of the Necromantic Council as scholar. He strives to contact another plane of existence through the Forbidden Portal and believes that the diseases that he has mastered on Sornith have inoculated him against any dangers that his experiments pose. Any colleague that suggests that he may actually be contacting the Shade will quickly find themselves at the top of his enemy list. Seneca has little respect for the weak-willed and indecisive. He has no qualms getting his talons dirty and carries out his duties as instructed by the Council with pleasure - so long as those orders don't interfere with his research. He is never seen without his off putting helm, claiming that the device both protects him from foreign influence and also channels his magic. The fact that he is terribly ashamed of his darkened eyes goes without mention. It is an open secret among his peers that Seneca is deeply jealous of dragons with special eyes. Dragons sporting primal or multigaze eyes will often find themselves subject to equal amounts of frosty silence and intensely personal questioning from the odd scholar. Many find that the Imperial is far more interested in espousing his theories than actually conversing with another. Seneca does not seemed bothered by his reputation as a rather unpleasant individual, however. His eyes are turned to much higher matters. Seneca is a trespasser in the Tangled Wood. He arrived one day without leave from any Shadow clan and wasted no time in setting up a space to safely house his research. Hidden in the ruined temple of a forgotten deity and reinforced with various spells and illusions, only those dragons with heavy magic sensitivity may be able to discover the location of his hideout. The odd Imperial spends much of his time alone, muttering to himself over reams of notes. His workshop is kept dark save for the natural glow of the Tangled Wood's flora and the eerie light emitting from the rows of specimens that line every shelf and table. Suspended in jars of bioluminescent fluid are the various materials he has collected during his visits to the Forbidden Portal. Tendrils, bones, alien matter, and, most importantly, eyes make up his macabre collection. Seneca firmly believes that these eyes are the key to gaining insight into other dimensions. |

Necromantic Symbols
A dragon's eyes are a symbol of their elemental magic, so it is jarring indeed to see that holy color surrounded by the blackness of the Shade. If a Necromancer, Necroservus, or Wraith develop Dark Sclera during their Trials it is often whispered that they entered into a heretical alliance with the Shade to save themselves and succeed. A Ghoul is twice-damned, the Dark Sclera pointed to as both the reason for their failure and Mother's judgement of their betrayal. However, a dragon so benighted gains the ability to gauge the Infectionist abilities of the Necromancers around them from sight alone, and to identify their signature Plague in others. It's a tempting gift to any Necromancer, so when one of long-standing suddenly develops a darkened gaze it brings with it inevitable suspicion, and 'Lich' might be whispered behind the dragon's back. |
A symbol of knowledge, tradition, lineage, succession, arcana, perpetuation, and the infinite. Necromancers bearing books or maps cast one eye into the past and one into the future, finding a way forward from the guidance of paths already walked. They are chroniclers, scholars, and cartographers, often serving as Inculcators to the Council and to their own clans. These Necromancers believe in the immutability of change, and seek power through the novel application of past knowledge. |
A symbol of self-actualization, determination, progress, action, manipulation, creativity, and resourcefulness. Necromancers bearing tools are forward-thinking and ambitious, often serving as Mutagists within the Council. They are seldom content with what is, instead urging their clan and leaders toward what could be. Where many Necromancers are bogged down by tradition and dogma, these individuals readily embrace Mother's doctrine of evolution, urging all around them to become more. |
