ABOUT - » Born after the Great Maelstrom swept the previous Guild into the sea, Beifong's hatching was an auspicious one. Though born blind, he had a natural affinity for following water currents and knowing when the balance of the water was off keel. If he was taken out of the water however, Beifong easily got ill and was unable to fly straight. When he came of age he apprenticed under Mariana, the last remaining tie the Guild had to the Tidefather. She honed his skills in the bay, water he was most comfortable in, and occasionally took him on research trips to the edge of the Trench. » It was on one of these trips to the Trench that Beifong and Mariana encountered something... ancient. Something... eldritch. The leviathan was massive and could barely be seen against the blackness of the deep waters. Mariana would have lost track of it on several occasions had it not been for Beifong sensing the shift in water. But even the young spiral could not account for the immense speed at which the creature turned on them, lashing out with its tail and cutting into dragon flesh. » Nimbulness won in the end. Beifong and Mariana could not outswim the leviathan so the imperial had to guide them through the smaller spaces between the Trench that the larger creature could not fit through. Eventually they lost the creature and were able to head back to Mingulay Bay, but not without their own scars. » Nowadays Beifong sticks to protecting the waters of the bay. Occasionally he floats out into the deeper waters but he finds himself most at ease within Mingulay. His official duties include monitoring the ecosystem balance, detecting disturbances in the water, and assisting ships that pass the break wall. |
