Despite her innate knowledge of her own death from birth, Eirene went through life peacefully, lovingly, kindly. She was one of the happiest among Clan Umbra's children.

It could have happened to anyone; a few moments out of her mother's sight and she nicked herself on thorns, and her fate was sealed-- not just from her family's curse, but Clan Umbra's as well.

The Umbral Curse had never been afflicted on a child before, and it affected her health much more quickly than most of the adult dragons who become afflicted. Brambles and mushrooms sprouted from her hide at a much quicker rate than had been seen before, and it left Eirene essentially bedridden for most of her young life, until she finally succumbed in her sleep.

Her beloved Maned Cerdae familiar came to her in what felt like a dream, with one question, "Do you want to live, Eirene?"

"Yes," Came a sleepy reply.

"What would you give?"

"Anything, anything."

The Cerdae simply bowed, "The deal is struck."

She lives again, hide still tangled with thorns, though she no longer feels it. What she does feel is reinvigorated, blessed by this chance. She works closely with the clan's mediums and channelers in aiding spectres around the Tangled Wood. Despite her peaceful demeanor, Eirene is the one who usually ends up doing the dirtier work - such as exorcisms. She is a protector of the path between life and death, policing the dead's interaction with the living, interfering when things get too nasty on either side.

Memento Mori (Latin: remember that you have to die) is the medieval Latin Christian theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits.

Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and by turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife.
