He sings softly to himself.

The heavens thunder when he opens his eyes. Wind strips away his shell, leaving him to fall with limp wings towards the earth. He spins in the air, his innate flexibility the only thing keeping his spine from cracking. The gray clouds accept him, the vapor stings his eyes and mouth. It infuses within him, and his eyes distill to blue. Air streams around him, speckled with cold rain as he hurtles further down. The hatchling couldn't know what happened, but only watch as the sea grew closer. The impact of landing in the water brought his first breath to his lungs as he sank deeper, growing more and more like his surroundings. Pain, after water, is the first thing he understands. Finally he realizes he has control, and wiggles like a fish, bringing himself back up to air.

That was all so long ago.


There's a Fae that constantly hums. While others of the Windsingers children dance, he composes symphonies and writes nonsensical notes to a tune only he knows. If you ask him about it, he'll try to explain, tripping over words and chattering excitedly. You won't understand anything of what he said, but you know he has another world in mind when he hums. He has a favorite tune, and he loves to sing it for those who ask about it.
