There comes a time in every life where things can go so right that the fates of the world desire nothing more than to make everything go wrong. Horribly, terribly wrong. As is the fate of all clans who reach the pinnacle of their power. Siduvronti, a once powerful clan at the pinnacle of progress, wiped clean in the span of one night. The brilliant displays of stardust that would fall over the Southern Icefield each night suddenly stopped greeting all who wandered in the vicinity of the tallest mountain in the Icewarden's homeland.

Yes, Mount Neverest. A dormant volcano long since abandoned to the unforgiving icefield we called home. None of us had any idea of what lay just below the magma vent that once fed the mountain. It was so cold that mother and father feared I would die upon hatching had they not reached me in time. When I first broke through my solid coil of darkness, I could not see my surroundings.

However, I heard it all too clearly. Screaming, blasts of magic, and the sound of weapons beating against what sounded like stone. I could smell and feel something almost metallic, all around me. A scent so strong that to this day, makes me sick when I so much as think about it. I tried calling for my kin, siblings or parents it did not matter. I just needed someone. My cries went unheard for... Well it seemed like hours to be frank. Until finally, finally I felt another presence around me. Something so gigantic that stalagmites began crashing around us. I heard more roars, the touch and taste of thick liquids dripping over me right before something sharp hovered just above my throat. Is this what it felt like to be held by your mother?

"ZINNIA!" The first sound I heard, it was my mother's voice. That much I knew, from the way she cradled me in her strong arms to the sound of her heartbeat. Warmer than any blanket I was ever placed in I knew that with her I was safe. And upon hearing the much deeper voice of what i knew was my father, mother's heart calmed. We began running, several of us I could hear the raging thunder of everyone racing together as father's scent grew distant. I was fine... Until the creature we left with dad moved. With a single step the ground below began to quake, its roar sounded like the gnarled voices of several beasts all at once. I trembled at its unbridled rage while my mother skidded to a halt upon reaching the central vacuum of Neverest. Snow was falling from up above, through the cloud barrier of The Abyss.

"The emperor...! I have to go back, Icarus needs me!" Mother shook in place, she was scared. So was I.

"Lotus, you can't! What about Zinnia? She needs a mother's warmth right now. Or she'll die in pining! You know this." I clutched onto her chest feathers tighter. I wanted to leave, I was crying without pause and mom almost listened to her friend's advice. But when she stepped off away from the danger I screamed. She understood immediately and raced back to where father was fighting this... emperor. The rally cries of several other warriors filled the air while mom kept me close in a pouch strapped across her chest. It was tight, but I was safe. I don't remember how long it was before the combined strength of the clan and more lured the beast away from our home. But I smelled so much blood after it was all said and done. To this day it haunts me in my dreams, the events after my birth. Strangers call me fortunate for remembering my entire life so expertly, save for the foggy memories of where I gained my particular markings. But to me, all of this is a curse. From the Emperor's ashes that rest within the deepest part of the mountain to the destruction of all we once loved.

I could not protect my family, and we almost fell to ruin that moonless night.
