Biography

Andromeda is supposedly a shy and bashful dragon, but that's all part of the act. Playful and laid-back, she loves showing off with dazzling displays of luminous scales and dancing shadows. She is adept at moderating both her voice and expressive crest. Playing a crowd is just another game, and one she's gotten quite good at. The world's a stage and all. Though she often performs for the sake of treasure, she can run a pretty good distraction, whether it be for keeping hatchlings busy or diverting attention from a much more elaborate game.

BREATH prototype report
IO attempted to build machines with cores based on the Breath organs of organic dragons, more commonly known as magic-producing and storing organs. The hope was that in using magical organs from a creature as rooted in magic as a dragon, these hybrid units would be able to produce magic at a higher rate and wield more potent magic than purely robotic ones. The BREATH line was first prototyped with a construct modeled after a fae, seeing as it would require fewer resources to build such a small frame and fae dragons possess quite potent Breath organs. Breath organs were recovered from the Tangled Wood with minimal difficulty. This prototype, designated Andromeda, demonstrated very potent magic and quicker magic production than purely mechanical units. Unfortunately, some parts of the advanced magical interface code either contained glitches or were insufficient for the designated task. Despite these obstacles, the BREATH line shows great potential.

IO Outpost WG23

Andromeda used to be part of a small clan of Fae dragons in the Tangled Wood. It was more of an extended family, really, and she did her best to support them as a street magician, catching coins from passing crowds as she put on a display of card tricks and illusory flairs. After her wings were mostly torn up from crashing into a tangle of brambles, Andromeda agreed to be fitted with experimental cybernetic prosthetics designed by IO Laboratories. Looking back, she’d expected the implementation process to involve… Well, less murder, to put it simply. It was odd, being back in a body that was both hers and completely foreign at the same time, and even odder being back after feeling herself die.

Dragons weren't meant to just… Revive like that. Not after what happened to her. Not after she felt her lungs burning as she choked on blood, a gaping hole in her chest from the bolt she’d tried to dodge. Not after the last thing she heard was a muffled, mildly annoyed muttering of, ‘It should’ve been a clean shot.’.

Not after she’d drowned in an abyss so dark even the children of Shadow feared it.

She couldn't move or speak. She couldn't see or hear. It felt like she was falling with no wind rushing by. From time to time, she felt a sensation too vague to describe or a faint tug.

Then, the world lurched.

Andromeda awoke while climbing her way out of the pit of muck and abandoned relics that made up the Forum of the Obscured Crescent. A box adorned with odd, ornate patterns caught her eye, and she carried it with her as she thrashed to the surface.

As she shook off the muck, Andromeda took stock of her situation. Her senses felt off; processed through a different lens, so to speak. Her body felt heavy, yet strong enough to hold up such weight. Circuit patterns traced across a shimmering, metallic shell. Her tail was numb and bent at an unnatural angle, exposing sparking wires. Most importantly though, magic surged through her veins. It felt more powerful and more alive than it ever had before. The box that had caught her eye contained cards with similarly themed patterns to those on the box. They subtly shimmered with enchantment, and purple mist followed in their wake as they were moved.

Whispering a prayer of gratitude to the Shadowbinder, Andromeda dug through the Tangled Wood for a pile of trinkets to toss in the Forum, then set out for someplace where IO had less influence.

On the border between the Tangled Wood and the Sea of a Thousand Currents, as she was flying over a rusty junkyard, Andromeda was flagged down by a pearl-less Pearlcatcher named Solis. Solis had noticed Andromeda’s broken mechanical tail, and offered to fix it up in exchange for some help catching food.

The two talked for a while as Solis repaired Andromeda's tail. Solis didn't push when Andromeda didn't wish to talk about her enhancements, and they ended up discussing what it meant to lose an important physical part of yourself, but being left with the same mind to pick up the pieces.

After repairs were complete and Andromeda caught a batch of quality insects to thank Solis, the two gave each other their farewells and Andromeda continued her flight. She had a goal in mind, of course. Her new body subsisted off of pure magic, and what better place to go for magic than the Starfall Isles?

As she travelled, she felt out the capabilities and limitations of her new body. She made her way as she did before, making treasure as a street performer with an enchanted deck of cards.

Hitching a ride on an airship in the Windswept Plateau, Andromeda reached the Starfall Isles. It didn't take long for her to find Clan Moonwake, and with it, she found a new home. It was nice; Everyone just sort of did their own thing and no one pressed her about her past. Even on the other side of Sornieth, Andromeda still thanks the Shadowbinder each night for this second chance.

Some time after Andromeda joined Clan Moonwake, a dragon named Ascii did as well. Andromeda was intrigued by the prospect of another robotic dragon joining the clan, and even more so when Ascii told the clan of an organization that fought for the freedom of artificial draconic entities: FL/GHT. One day, Andromeda tagged along with Ascii on a visit to one of FL/GHT’s bases. After a quick explanation, Andromeda was formally introduced to the cause and joined their ranks.

Given her proficiency with illusions, distractions, and powerful magic, Andromeda was a natural fit for the Rescue and Infiltration faction. She works with the Field Units when numbers are short, but her true specialty will always be working as part of an infiltration team, covering escapes with clouds of darkness, providing distractions and convenient crowds to blend into with her signature street performances of enchanted card tricks, and of course, tearing apart foes and obstacles alike with claws of shadows.

Andromeda's tail still rests at an odd angle from when it was broken. It works fine, just looks unusual when it's not doing anything.

Andromeda lacks a sense of smell or taste in her robotic form. It's kind of a touchy subject.
