His magic lies in dreams. A bringer of nightmares and madness, Melinoe drives his victims to the brink of insanity by filling their heads with vivid, brutal dreams, leaving them sleepless and haunted by day. It is at their maddest, most tired point that he strikes. His work is a game to him, reveling in his torturous antics. He travelled from his home in the Foxfire Bramble after growing bored with the dragons who lived there, with how weak minded they were. Aside from his mother and his fellow siblings, there was no-one who could even stand up to him and his magic. Besides, wasn't it just so boring in the Tangled Wood after living there for his entire life? No, he wanted to find more... interesting targets, more interesting opponents, people who could... challenge his magic. First, he travelled to the Sea of a Thousand Currents, hoping to find other siblings who could withstand his nightmare magic. Unfortunately, while he did find those siblings, not a lot of them were alligned with magic. Fed up with their failure to match his magic potential, he also left the domain of the Tidelord behind. This is how he ended up on the Windswept Plateau. At first, he was disgusted with how peaceful the place was. He was looking for a worthy opponent who would match his horrible magic, not this... cuddlefest! Sure, some of them had potential, but... just not enough to satisfy him. That was, until he, while exploring the Cloudsong, he came upon a large clan. The clan of the Purring Winds. At first, he laughed at the concept of the clan. A clan who puts their might in defending others? Hilarious! Who would ever use their power, if not for their own benefits? Still, he could sense some potential in some of their members, and challenged them. If they couldn't withstand his nightmares... heh, well, they'd just find out, wouldn't they? Cackling, he used his magic, spreading nightmares throughout the clan. Soon, many of the members grew paranoid, frazzled, and restless. he delighted in seeing many of the already mentally damaged dragons in the clan lose their mind to his magic. Even though it wasn't wwhat he really wanted, he could always appreciate a good round of tearing an unsuspecting clan apart. He was surprised to find, however, that a few of the clan members seemed to be... immune to his magic. He was angered, but also excited. Had he found his match? Had he finally found a worthy opponent? He quickly realized, that one thing the unaffected had in common, is that they hung around the young heir of the clan, Ulisis. Soon, he was convinced the young dragon had a way of undoing his magic, and confronted him. He demanded to know how, how did he avoid his nightmares, and spare others of the same fate? Ulisis was reluctant to reply, frightened by the Nightcaller, but in a moment of courage, threatened to take Melinoe's magic away if he didn't lift the curse he had placed upon the clan. Melinoe wasn't impressed, sure that Ulisis was bluffing. Still, he was... endeared by the bravery the young dragon showed. A plan formed in his mind. Perhaps if he could win Ulisis' trust, he could find a way to break through wathever was protecting him. A fun game. So, with a laugh, Melinoe said he would undo the curse, if Ulisis promised that he could stay, and... learn about the clan, yes. That would be a good bonding activity with the clan's heir, hmm? Ulisis agreed with a sigh of relief, and Melinoe undid his nightmare magic influencing the clan. From then on, Melinoe lived in the Purring Winds. At first, a lot of dragons were, understandably, wary of him, but members like Ithellin, and Cherry were quick to forgive him due their easygoing nature. He also met a Coatl called Jaxine. He was unsure what to make of her, for she seemed more interested in his nightmare magic than scared of it, even asking to be subjected to it from time to time. He was so interested by her reactions to his magic, and her strange love for it. He fell for her before he could even think about it. Ever the one to take what he wanted, he demanded Jaxine be his mate, and mother of his future children. He was lucky she agreed, curious to see what effect the magic of a Nightcaller would have on hatchlings of a regular dragon. Slowly, he forgot about his plans to betray Ulisis, and became genuine friends with the heir. He stayed in the Purring Winds. Oh, don't misunderstand, he's still as cruel as ever, but... he enjoys the strange company of the dragons here. |
